You’d think an experienced undertaker
would have known to nail it down - set it in stone
would have known not to bury it in the quicksand

behind my eyes, a shootout (a wetting)
everything good is wet. The blushing egg, nativity,
------------- an opal rain-swollen channel, tongues in a dirty kiss
--------------bathing, champagne, everything good is wet

sweat soaked tourniquet
my nocturnal hands pulling me out by the nape
(grateful he forgot to remove the noose)
I want to swing again

dressed in my best tux, fishnets, spikes, top hat, cane
moulin tilt and dizzy ruby sky pirouette
into the vacant side of my anomaly
into the city of sight(s). Into
the Mystique.

i love the (i hope you don't take offense to this word choice) gaudy fashion description in the last stanza--exquisite, indeed! and the "everything good is wet" stanza...absolutely true and vibrant and full of life!

LOL... no offense. It is my "Puttin on the Ritz" or "Cabaret" costume as I exit this side of the Atlantic. LOL... picture a sky hook yanking me off this stage! I will be living fairly close to the Moulin Rouge and my school girl anticipation is getting the best of me LOL.

The wetness of Paris this time of year sounds good to me after 7 months in the desert!

very intriguing images... i was thinking of the windmill in the picture reeling in the 'noose', so you can 'swing again'. i would like to understand the 'vacant side of my anomaly'.

Hi cogs! Thanks for reading. As for your question, well, I'm one of those right brian/left brain people. There really is two of me. I spent most of my adult life (to-date) in the left hemisphere. Pragmatic, business executive, budgets, graphs, charts, logic, responsible, on time, etc etc but all through that,

there were little glimpses into the creative side. The occasional painting, writing (the last couple of years), being drawn to galleries and poets like a moth to a flame (sorry, I know....cliche) etc. In this piece, that's the vacant side. The right hemisphere. The place I now need to fill.

Symphony, I think I know what you mean. I was able to write about Paris before getting here but now, it's so spectacular, so overwhelming I'm afraid I can't do it justice and, have not had a single line I'm happy with come to mind. Maybe when I stop being so starry eyed and in love with this city, I'll relax into writing! Thanks for taking the time to read my poems! (I have started sketching though... somehow that's less intimidating LOL).

Salut symphony! Sharing a sketch would be like sharing an unfinished poem. Sorry! But, I am planning on using a sketch to write a poem... soon as I find some time. Today is my one week anniversary in Paris! This city is so full of life it is difficult to stay indoors and concentrate! If you are interested there are a few samples of my paintings on my profile in the photo section. I'm not a commercial artist so no, I don't have a website. I mostly paint for sanity, friends and family LOL.
