Hello... or sveiki,

My name is Lauris and I'm from Latvia. Just wondering, are there any known Latvians around here? :P

I like to read, in fact, I remember the first book that I read when I was about eight years old - The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Huckleberry Finn bored me, so I re-read Tom Sawyer for myriad times. Now I have developed some taste in literature and find The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to actually be more 'lively' and enjoyable.

My all time favo(u)rites (just wanted to ask - do you use American or U.K. English here?) are the Nordic writers. From Knut Hamsun (God, remembering 'Pan' still makes my inner child weep!') to the newer ones like Lars Saabye Christensen (The Half Brother, The Figwort Family, Beatles etc).

I also like poetry, particularly the few great Latvian poets, probably because I am not a native speaker of English and English resources are limited here in Latvia. My all-time favourite line is from the Latvian poet Klāvs Elsbergs - "Es izlikos, ka viņus nepazīstu/Es, rēta, izlikos, ka dzīstu" (rough translation: "I pretended I don't know them/I, a scar, pretended to heal myself").

My favourite English line actually comes from music: "She appears composed, so she is, I suppose" - Elliott Smith, Waltz #2.

That's about it. I also have a homepage which is kind of relevant so you can see it here (http://www.****edupbooks.com/).
