I found it interesting to listen to as I drove. Don't know if I would take time to read it, but that is true of many authors. I relegate those from the latter half of the 20th century as books to listen to while doing something else.

You're entitled to your opinion and all, but I think it's an overstatement to declare that no novel written between 1951 and 2000 deserves your undivided attention. The book in question isn't considered the best work of either writer. However, I've always admired Burroughs immensely and I liked what little Kerouac I've read.

Istvan

But I find modern and post modern books to be somewhat interesting, but not worth my undivided attention ... some not even worth a cursory glance. Of course there are some exceptions such as Thomas Pynchon. And I forget when Lolita was written, but it is a masterpiece. But Philip Roth, Don Delilo et al ... you can throw them all in a hat and when you pull them out you can't tell the difference. As for Burroughs, The Naked Lunch is fare for a scatological dope addict. No thank you!

Wow. You're like the Roger Federer of non sequiturs.
