I have been reading and reading and reading for months now, but I haven't read anything that i've really been enjoying all that much. I am terrible at finding a good book and most of the time I have to use recommendations or I'm screwed. So i'm asking now.

Some of my favorite writes are Terry Pratchet (but not disk world, go figure) Neil Gaiman, Amy Tan and Allen Moore. I tend to enjoy plots like Dark City (Its a movie but I love it) the Priest manga series, Box Office Poison and Fables. If anyone cant point me in the direction of a few good books like these i'll be eternally grateful.

Priest isn't a manga, it's a manhwa. There's a difference.

If you enjoy Amy Tan, try her best friend Stephen King. Guaranteed to scare the pants off you. Also, if you like Pratchett's SF try more of Clarke and Asimov; you'll be a lover of SF forever.

I would try Kurt Vonnegut--any of his works are incredible, my favorites being "The Sirens of Titan", "Hocus Pocus", and "Cat's Cradle". Good luck and happy reading!

Have you read Patricia McKillip's "The Riddle-Master Trilogy?" This series illuminated my teen years and had the same effect upon me this summer.
