Good question.

How do we see 21th century novel? I personally like Kundera, because he is so brave; In his latest novels he thrown away normal novel, he creates it like essay. It is admirable, that writer can be so brave that he can turn his back into regular things, and build something different.

I mean that 21th century novel - from my point of view - could be very deep, very intellectual. Jose Saramago has some serious stuff, too.

is there some moden novel is about china, but from a foreigner's perspective. I like the light novel firstly, because i am chinese. it will be easier to understand. I like the novel covers common life with attracive plot. yes! i read some serous novels sometimes in chinese. but the light one are more attractive especially with plot I familiar with.

Let's just wait for the 21st Century satires to come out first. There's a lot going on in this world that would bode well for satire.

Best two books of the century so far, for me, are:

A thousand splendid suns by Khlad Hosseini

The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

Modest Proposal

As far as 21st C. kids books go, I've heard something called "Skippy John Jones" recommended. Also Neil Gaiman has some nice kids books.

As far as 21st C. is concerned I think Roth and McCarthy are both talanted but McCarthy has some pretty violent work and I have other issues with Roth. As someone mentioned Sarmagio and Kundera are both brilliant.

I'd agree with neilgee about Hosseini, but I'll also ditto Onikeflava; it's really too early to tell. Please try again by around 2089-or later^^
