No, I mean, what about him? Do we just shower praises on him whenever he makes a brilliant post? Or how about enumerate his wonderful characteristics?
How about interviewing him? Grill him about his personal life? (He may always choose not to answer... hehe)

Again, that could be another option. I'm sure he has wonderful characteristics :).

Hmmm, that's a good idea. Now we just have to think of questions to ask him ;).

Here are three questions that JBI has answered:
1. What is/are your favourite thread(s)?
I like the Classical Chinese poetry thread, or the idea of it at least, but alas, it has essentially died because of lack of interest :(.
2. Do you have a LitNet crush?
I'll say yes, but I won't say who.
3. Do you have a GF?
Not at the current moment :(.

He'd never go for it because he tells me that he doesn't like reality TV, or any TV show for that matter. I asked if he watched "So You Think You Can Dance Canada" or "Degrassi: The Next Generation" (both shows are Canadian), but he said no. But perhaps he'd change his mind if he were the star.

Alright - you guys pay higher taxes, and more for education. As for quality of health care, I bet ours is just as good technologically speaking, and free in this case isn't a problem - so in the end, perhaps Canada isn't so bad, if you don't mind living in an Igloo.

As far as I know, JBI is the only Torontonian who has defended the TTC. In general, most other Torontonians loathe the TTC, but have no choice but to take it.
However, I do give him credit for being willing to go against the grain, because in other instances, going against popular thought is not always a negative thing.

I don't think it's awesome, but I think Toronto is a car city, and until that changes, there really isn't much a point of extending the TTC, especially the rail system - as it is, nobody uses the newest line they just put in, and it only cost billions - maybe if people stopped clogging the roads, and took the subway, then there would be a point in improving the TTC - as it is, it does what is required of it.

That's easy for you to say. You don't have to wait 30 minutes in the cold for the bus.

I've taken that line exactly 2 times.

I don't know - I use a monthly pass - besides which, the public transport system is much cheaper than some countries - one needs to pay 2 Euros to take the transit for an hour in Rome for example, and it various European city to city. I think Japan is probably the most expensive though - though supposedly their trains are super fast.
As it is, it isn't perfect, and not the best in the world, but it does the job. I'm not about to complain about it right now, now that they are about to stick another 6% on everything.

6% - it flat rates everything at 13 and then removes the GST exemptions for businesses and for certain products. (and you are looking at someone who takes things seriously, and lines up at Tim Horton's twice for the sake of saving the fat tax on purchases under 4$).
The sad thing is though we don't live in a socialist economy - we're busy wasting money on things like other people's wars, and bailing out business mismanaged by our neighbors. It's a shame to, though lets not get into politics - I may get banned.

This isn't about who is the best, though some Americans may see it that way.
As for the above post about 219 words - I could have answered in fewer words, true, but as you say, quality over quantity - I think Li Bai, or Bynner's Li Bai at any rate, speaks in a more qualitative manner than, lets say, "I don't even think I aught to answer such a ridiculous statement." Though perhaps short and snappy may have done the trick.
Lets be honest; Americans think faster? Does any country think faster than another? I thought the rate at which people process things is a more or less equal thing across all nations - though perhaps the inbreeding in some places (cough, Bible Belt, cough) may have slowed things down a bit.
Of course, I will grant Americans are more likely to act rashly with more risks, whereas Canadians seem more cautious, and less ambitious. That seems ingrained, at least on some levels, from what I see in culture. But, then again, perhaps that isn't such a bad thing.

Ever heard of a New York minute? It's measured faster than a regular minute.
This is how it works. Everything happens in a New York minute in certain parts of the US, namely the NY Metro, so you have to think on your feet. The key is to think fast, act fast, then figure out how to fix it later.
Now Down South, they got rocking chairs, which slow thoughts down dramatically. In fact, my brain actually rolls backwards along the South Carolina shores.

That's good to hear - when I formally write, I make very few mistakes if any - but that comes with hours of proofreading to find the perfect word and such - I don't know, essays have been going well so far this year except one, which I am unpleasantly awaiting the return of. Seriously though, do you really have that much trouble with grammar? Shouldn't you, for formal writing, use proper grammar anyway? Either way though, from what I know about Suzack, she takes herself very seriously. What was that for, a course on Aboriginal literature?

True, to an extent, I didn't respond (in part because I couldn't think of what to say, and in part because I couldn't find the text on the bottom of the site) but I did not come back because St. Lukes took a shot at me, I came back because he started a reply, and as I waited on and on for him to finish it, hoping to at least be able to comment on it that night, directly after it was posted, I found myself replying to this thread. As it so happens, he didn't quite finish his post.
So you really wanted to respond to stlukesguild, but he didn't give a fast enough reply, and so you settled for responding to me. Such kind consideration you have given me. Just keep in mind who started your fan club because I don't think it was stlukesguild.

Yes, but you do see the dilemma I have here - on one hand, I could post and keep this thread at the top, yet on the other hand, I can realize that it is a tad bit depressing to be my own biggest fan, and one of the most communicative members of my own fan club - how then am I to negotiate the two evils - one being being polite to you, as you evidently deserve, yet on the other hand...

The fact that you would even consider this to be a dilemma implies that stroking your ego is more important to you than being polite to me. If that's the case, then I'm no longer a fan, which would decrease your fan count to zero.

You are the one who accused me of being rude, we must note, in that I didn't reply fast enough (the fact that I was essentially away from the boards for a day and didn't reply to anyone doesn't factor in), but we'll leave it at that. Had you but sent a private message, for instance, you can assure yourself based on past experience, that I would have replied promptly, but, you remove contexts.
Think about it - you get offended that I responded to St. Lukes first, but doesn't that imply that I took more time to respond to you? Wouldn't one think that is a gesture of esteem rather than anything else.
But alas, seeing how this is a fan club of one now, I aught not to reply anyway, as, ironically, as I had hinted at earlier, this has turned into a one man show, and I am non Onanist enough to warrant my own self-obsessiveness, so I guess the thread can now fold over and die.
It makes no difference anyway - anyone can see that I barely post on these boards anymore anyway, and that my posts are all distracted and whatnot. Either I get attacked for being too Canadian, or too "controversial, or too "current", or too "academic", or whatnot, or I get yelled at for being negligent and not posting - either way it is a barrage of killeraggio - a verbal debasement - as is want recently with everything I post, and is the only response I get anyway (usually along the lines of "you are Canadian shut up") so, at any rate, having no fans, having one fan, having a million fans, no matter what I type I am going to get yelled at somewhere for - all this is hinting at is I should just not bother posting anymore.

No, the person that has been keeping this thread alive is me. Now that I am no longer a fan, I guess this thread has no purpose.

Whatever. It's up to you.
It was no dream: I lay broad waking.
But all is turned thorough my gentleness
Into a strange fashion of forsaking;
And I have leave to go of her goodness,
And she also, to use newfangleness.
But since that I so kindly am served
I would fain know what she hath deserved.
Or would that you prefer
And this is why I sojourn here
Alone and palely loitering,
Though the sedge is wither’d from the lake,
And no birds sing.

Oh nothing - I just found the contrast between the personalities of the poems worth noting in the situation - for instance, in the Wyatt, you have the speaker left in an aporia, in which he doesn't know exactly how he should act, and what his "abandonment" means - it gestures to a sense of betrayal, but also, of fondness, which is rather unclear.
As for the second, the contrast is in the way the "belle" would have the narrator act, as if, the whole thing is merely a game in a ploy in which rebuke and rejection are done for aesthetic purposes.
either way it doesn't matter, if you want original work, I could pen a couplet or two, a quatrain, satire, Ballade, Sestina, etc. etc. but to what purpose - as you said, you aren't a fan anyway, why should I be as presumptive as to think you aught to read it - should I sit there in question, or through the wither'd sedge go a-trotting, yclad in my own helplessness?

Poetry isn't about singing praises - even the most Petrarchan of verses only sing the poet's praise - everybody knows that. Pastoral has nothing to do with the Shepherdess - the whole poetic genre has only to do with the vehicle of subject as is relates to the poet.
On that note, shall I then around the forest go, with your name, my verse, onto the tree-bark throw?
As it is, I am yet from you to get said lyric, so though my own efforts maybe faulty, as of now... Even so though, I make no excuses - as you say, you would that I would rather not write, than to write what you would rather not read.
As if, by some delay, in that, though I read the post, I did not reply to it immediately (ironically, my reply itself had no significance at any rate anyway), I somehow like a Hector, have slain some Patroklus, thus I, by the poniard thrust of your words, am made as if to be cut down, mutilated, and behind your chariot dragged.
In that sense, would you rather I not have replied?

You conceded defeat. That's good enough for me. And yes, I'll accept your explanation.
That "folding" comment reminds me that the finale of the Amazing Race will be in Las Vegas. I remember telling you to watch the premiere (but you didn't watch it). Now it's the finale. Time really flies. If you did watch it, though, you'd probably scream at racers because they don't know anything about literature.
For instance, unscramble COHKEHV. It is the name of a famous Russian playwright. You'd be surprised how many racers struggled.
In the second instance, unscramble RZFNA. The racers are in Prague, and the task is called Kafkaesque. Nearly every racer struggled, and one even quit the task.
Can you unscramble these? I recall that you weren't too great at unscrambling words. ;)
Chekhov is easy, though Franz is perhaps a little more confusing given the nz combo isn't particularly common in English. Though, as you know, crosswords and jumbles give me great difficulty.

Only one racer got CHEKHOV immediately. He said, "Who doesn't know Chekhov?" Well, apparently a lot of people don't know Chekhov.
But then again, TAR racers:
think that the Persian Gulf is a country
don't know that the world's tallest freestanding structure is in Dubai (I grieved for the CN Tower)
thought that Jackie Kennedy was Queen Elizabeth
think that Namibia and Zambia are the same country
think that hydroelectric dams are built by beavers
thought that Lenin built the aforementioned dam
can't pronounce Taipei
Well, 99.9% of the world or more are likely to just read it Tie as in clothes tie, and pei as in pay. I think it would be a very rare occurrence to find somebody who pronounces it properly, as bei - and even then, it would still be an estimate as tie-bay.
And, ironically, people like that come onto these very boards, and yell at me that I am elitist for insisting people spell things with Pinyin instead of Wade-Giles.

That's like referring to Beijing as Peking, or Guangzhou as Canton.
Of course, one could go the other way, but these are all sounds available in English, whereas other languages have barriers of phonetic sounds being unavailable. I just find it a little annoying.
How is aboriginal studies? I was considering taking the 100 level course as a distribution requirement but didn't end up going through with it.

I disagree - I think "How Canadian of me." Most people seem to think snow is merely a romantic family atmosphere setting, in which the spirit of the holiday season is highlighted by bright flakes falling softly. They don't realize that it's more like tick gusts of blizzard blowing at your face and freezing you to the bone, or a metre of poundage in front of your doorway come morning that you need to plow through so that your parents can get their cars out of the driveway (all this around 6:00, or earlier on a major dumping of course). To the average person, I think, snow is merely a concept - I don't think many people realize that it is actually cold, and wet, and heavy, and continuous, and, unfortunately, abundant.

I agree that the blizzards, slush, and salt are unpleasant. I'm not going to say that I love the snow, but it's part of Canadian life, so you just have to embrace it.
However, I really don't think that Canadian winters are THAT cold. Though, yes, I will complain when the wind chill makes it feel like -40 degrees and I have to wait for the bus. But for the most part, if you're properly dressed, it's fine. Then again, you were saying that 7 degrees was cold.

You also must note that Toronto is mild Canada. Try Edmonton or Calgary and well, freezing! I don't know - I used to spend much of the winter in the countryside, but now I see that as useless - the winter there is enough to trap you on the roads - city winter is unpleasant, but country winter is hell.
Of course, we all pretend that it isn't so bad - but I wager, given the chance, everybody wouldn't mind sitting on a beach somewhere.
The haunting thing about it though, is that the wilderness and blizzard of winter has a sort of aesthetic appeal -as if the barren wilderness that traditionally characterizes Canada as a motif was both "Cain's land", yet at the same time, unbelievably beautiful.

Are you saying that I am too agonistic/antagonistic? as Linda Hutcheon is found of quoting, I am as "Canadian as possible under the circumstances." Simply put, I drink the same Tim Hortons as everybody else (the fact that I think Tim Hortons is kind of meh, and brew my own Turkish coffee 95% of the time doesn't matter).
As for St. Lukes, and the Leafs winning the Stanley - I don't think it will happen before hell freezes over. Luckily, I am not a sportsfan, and don't watch, so at least I don't waste three hours to see a bunch of overpaid jocks lose night after night.

I don't think people "like" it though - If you read, for instance, Prairie Fiction, it seems riddled with an ambivalence - As For me and My House by Sinclair Ross, for instance, seems to treat the Prairie winter as a desolate void - a sort of hell.
