Happy Birthday, Nick!

An interview with NickAdams:

Why are we doing this interview thing?
Because you offered.

Are you sure you want to do this?
Regret comes after.

Got milk?
I do, but only in small doses (I'm lactose intolerant).

Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
I did, but I'll return it when I'm done.

If you had a personal theme song what would it be?
'Round Midnight (Miles Davis and John Coltrane).

Are you male or female?
Male ...

What makes you keep coming back?
The members.

Are you happy with the way things are here?

Which countries have you visited?
I few islands in the Caribbean, but that was almost two decades ago, so I can't recall them let alone the country they are a part of. Most of my travel has been in the U.S., but I would like to see more of the world: Iceland, Paris, China, India etc.

How do you like your home town?
I complain until I'm away from it; I'm sure I'm not the only one. ;)

If you could live somewhere different, where would it be and why?
Somewhere away from volcanoes and the coast, because nature makes me paranoid.

Do you have any pets?
No.

What makes you happy?
Literature, film and music ... sex goes without saying, right?

What is mankind's biggest achievement, and its greatest downfall?
Science would be an easy answer for both, but:
language and synecdoche (violence is far more difficult when it's against an individual and an abstraction).

Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God/atheism?
Yes. A comfortable shoe is one you forget you wear.

Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?
Only I can play me:lol:. I'm not being egotistical, it's that most of the action in my life goes on in my head and it's not something I discuss.

Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
Human.

What were your favorite things to do the past? What about now?
Paint, watch films, read and masturbate.

What makes you feel great about yourself?
Thinking.

How did you meet your significant other?
We met at a Team Sleep (they're a band) show.

Who inspires you most?
Inspiration comes from a number of places, but it's the connections that inspire me. For me, inspiration is related to epiphany.

What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)
Drawing. It's the one thing I did that I did not have to study. Everything else, writing (still working on it), film and martial arts, I learned through observing so when I started each it seemed as if I was a natural, but I'd been mentally preparing.

What is the one thing you must do before you die?
Make sure that my family is financially secure.

If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
Creative writing.

What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?
Writing a verse epic.

What method do you cherish above all others, as means to improving your life?
Reflection.

What is your role in an emergency situation: the 911 dialer, the person who runs to the scene to help, the video recorder, or the person too overcome by shock to do anything?
The person who runs to the scene to help.

What one thing would you NEED to have on a deserted island if you didn't have to worry over food and water?
That's tough, but I would have to say, or type, companionship.

What song is in your head at the moment?
I'm Looking Through You by The Beatles.

Which book are you reading at the moment?
Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoevsky; Winesburg, Ohio - Sherwood Anderson; Unspeakable Practices, Unnatural Acts - Donald Barthelme; Consider the Lobster - David Foster Wallace; The Complete Poems - John Keats; Poems and Other Writings - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; Essays and Lectures - Ralph Waldo Emerson; Being and Nothingness - Jean-Paul Sartre; The Old and New Testament

The last book you finished reading?
When Skateboards Will be Free - Saïd Sayrafiezadeh

What is your favourite quote?
"Don't mistake motion for action." - Ernest Heminyway

Favorite food?/ Comfort food?
Pasta/ Corned Beef with cabbage (my grandmother was Scott/Irish, so my mom made it every St. Patrick's Day; I guess it was a tradition when she was growing up).

What time of day do you most often find yourself on the LitNet?
4:00pm

What are you wearing at the moment?
A towel.

Favorite poem?
Ode to a Nightingale - John Keats

First novel you remember reading on your own?
1984 - George Orwell

What era do you find most of the books you read are from?
20th Century

Favorite TV shows?
Colbert Report, Curb Your Enthusiasm Law and Order: Criminal Intent (I liked D'Onofrio, but Goldblum is fantastic.)and South Park

Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?
 I don't want to say.

Last words you said out loud?
Thank you.

Last person you hugged/kissed?
My wife.

What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?
I'm unemployed.

What would you like to be if you could change your profession?
Homicide Detective.

What is your most outstanding feature?
Most say my eyes (they're hazel), but I like my birthmarks.

If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?
I would remove the keloid from my ear.

Which book do you wish you had written?
The DaVinci Code.

What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
Editing.

If you could only rescue one item from your burning house, what would it be, and why?
My Mac, my work is on it.

Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?
Wonderful Superman. I believe he suffers as much as Batman, but he doesn't express it and that makes him all the more interesting.

Anything that you want to forget but you never can?
Yes.

Tell us about some amusing translation mistake you have heard or made yourself.
I make the mistake, quite often, of saying happy anus instead of happy birthday which is easy to do in Spanish.

Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?
I'm mostly happy.

What type of Faerie would you like to be and why?
Wouldn't I benefit more from befriending a Faerie than being one?

What makes you laugh?
Miscommunication.

What part of “Final” don’t you understand?
The first syllable.

One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?
Begin ...
