I noticed in the idiot in ippolits speech where he says " can't I just be devoured without having to praise what devours me" some similarities to something said by the old servant women in candide . It had something to do with suicide and sufferiing, wish I could be clearer on this no longer have a copy of candide) anyway seems a strange kind of reference for Dostoevski anyone have any insight?

It's actually pretty simple: Candide was one of Dostoevsky's favorite books. It's just like if you or I were to write a book and reference The Idiot.
He also mentions Candide and Voltaire in Demons and The Brothers karamazov.

Don't remember him actually mentioning candide in the Idiot, I think that candide lead him to a thought that ended up being quite different but he gave credit for the original thought not really sure if it's a reference or not.really think its simple?
