Misunderstood

Words
with the power of thunder
to shake the world
may
at times
fall surprisingly fickle
a springtime drizzle
when contorted
upon human lips
grasping
for understanding
feebly speaking

Communications
crossed and re-crossed
translations
of thoughts & ideas
become lost

How many disagreements
vanquished
if only words
could present
themselves in
pure form & meaning?

But perhaps
they must err
because they are
our creations
can words
soar beyond
our own inability?

As little gods
perhaps we have become
have words
taken on a life
all their own
do they
now exist
for their own sake?

We no longer
have the power
to take them away
they live within us
and now our own
ability to wield them
is infirm.

very interesting, in that, once digested, they do become part of us. i like the god reference, using words to control, 'to shake the world'. i read this 2 days ago, but only now i 'get it'. it's the words that got inside me. write more!

Nice poem. It would be nice if words could truely express what is intended. Though, however, those gifted with word may not struggle as much as the rest of us.

Beautiful opening gambit that sets the stage for a truly great poem
