It's 2:41 am. i'm still awake.
Is anyone else here an insomniac? what do you do? do you lurk around litnet until you fall sleep? write something?
How do you fall asleep?

Oh we all seem to be insomac zombies.
I once had a chaotic schedule (and liked it :D) and stayed up extremely late at night. Then I became a conformer to the daytime and went to bed at about 11:00 (how early!).
Now, thanks to litnet, I'm becoming a nocturnal creature once again.
There's not enough things I can say about the night. It is a time when the subconscious awakes and thoughts go wild, in fact, my best and most surreal poems were written under the influence of the night. Like DarkMuse I seem to share a personal sentiment with the moon.

 true.
I'm just not awake by day. People talk to me and i just say random things, night is when i can really write.
I agree, my best works are writen by night, by day all i can manage is Sunshine is Pretty a poem in 3 lines.
Overall the moon is very symbolic, i've always liked all the mythos about it. (did you hear they're crashing a rocking in it btw?)
Hey baki
yeah i'm a bit of an insomniac. it's absolutely awful, because you're DYING to sleep, but you can't.

How do you fall asleep?
Immediately upon contact between head and pillow -- at least I used to until a few weeks ago or so. Now, I wake in the dead of night and start wandering around in the flat performing little tasks, or I go online.
Not so at the moment though, it's already morning :)

I've tried the reading thing but i can't find anything so boring it just puts me out :goof:
I love watching documentaries, so when i'm up all night/morning, i just watch them ha

I used to resort to sleeping pills, but I began to notice that they where having a very negative effect on my body and that they were taking away my dreams (something very important :goof:).
Now I just turn on some jazz and freely float into the world of dreams. That is, when I allow myself to rest.

I don't usually have trouble falling asleep, unless my skin is in a very bad condition (the constant itch often disturbs my sleep, but usually I can fall sleep anyway, it just wakes me up several times a night), but I hate going to sleep. It's such a project with all the applying of cream and such my skin demands.
Also I feel like I can concentrate better at night when it's dark and quiet, and often do my homework pretty late at night. On weekends I often stay awake till three or four a.m. (and sometimes during the week too, which isn't good when you have an early morning ahead of you...)

That happens to me all the time. I usually try reading for my boring classes or take a walk- it usually help- or listen to music :D. It comes in useful when you actually need to do something though.

Don't resort to sleeping pills. It's not worth altering your system with drugs. It can only lead to negative things.
I use audio tapes. The sound of a person's voice in some lecture just puts me right out after five minutes if I don't resist. Since I'm married and not alone in bed I need to use headphones, and so I use small ones that won't be uncomfortable as I sleep.

 I think the real problem is that the rest of the world is under the impression that only stalkers and vampires live by night. We all have an internal clock and no matter how many years we get up early for class or a job or with the hubby; we remain "creatures of the night". Do you sleep well during the day. I can sleep for 6 to 8 hours during the day and wake up refreshed; at night I toss and turn. It may not work for everyone; but I've turned my schedule around and do everything from 3pm to 3am...I feel great! Good Luck

I often go to bed past 4:00 a.m.
Even that late, I still find it hard falling asleep. I guess I am some sort of a nocturnal being, so I sit at the PC and log in on Lit Net or surf other sites of the web. I won't take sleeping pills though. Since I'm not the junkie type, I barely figure what to do when I see a pill.

Hmm. They call it insomnia I call it normal. My theory is that we are ment to be awake at night, and sleep during the day. How else do you explain that the best sleep is under warm sunshine, it just makes you so drowsy. And yeah I was up until 6 this morning. I tend to do laundry, play sims <3, write, eat ice cream, ect. things most people do during the day. However If I need to go to sleep I do something I have been putting off... IE. studying, or doing homework. puts ya to sleep every time...

the annoying commercials where they try to sell stuff work great to put you to sleep too. Especialy the towel ones...

Watch Apocalypse Now or Seven Samurai after 3AM, you'll fall asleep faster than you think.
But yes, I'm quite a bit of an insomniac.

I spend my non-sleeping hours writing my novels, stories, and (as of recently) poems.

I have terrible insomnia. Haven't gotten it resolved yet. I strongly urge you to stay away from sleeping pills. usually what I do is don't go to sleep at all, walk through the next day in an absolute haze and then pass out at about 6 pm and wake up the next day feeling semi normal. And then I'm okay for a while and then I have another sleepless night. Tonight, I'm having trouble getting to sleep so here I am on Lit Net with nothing to contribute. They say regular exercise and a routine are good for sleeping issues. Like, pick a time to wake up everyday and actually get out of bed at that time no matter how much you don't want to. And then, eventually, you will start going to bed at a reasonable hour and waking up at a reasonable hour. I can't seem to stick with it long enough myself though. And caffeine...caffeine is bad. I think it's our culture. We're all saturated with caffeine and information and incessantly flashing computer monitors. Oh, and I bought some relaxation track off itunes. It's the sound of rain and thunderstorms with theta sound waves or something too...supposed to promote relaxation. I think it works. I put it on my ipod dock and sat in the tub the other day and it was like heaven. I think I'll go get that and see if I can't fall asleep. 'Night!

hahahahaha Antonioni does it best. The "red desert" is a good choice
I happen to like antonioni by the way but i admit that he is slow.

I can confirm that  Regular exercise has helped me a lot. That and reading a couple of hours before going to sleep.

Coffee is really doing its wrong deeds on me, but I like it so badly that I can't quit. However I used to experience the benefits of relaxing night exercise, like doing some yoga poses before going to bed. I should revisit such habit, though the problem is that nights are the time of day when I can be the most on Lit Net, so what should I do? Go practice yoga, then to bed, or stay here instead? WHAT A CONUNDRUM!
I also agree with having a schedule for going to bed and waking up, though it requires a good amount of discipline that I don't seem to have :(

I hardly ever watch something slow. It wouldn't make me want to sleep. It makes me just... want to cut my wrists wide open :cold: ....
