I'm pretty sure this is the place to ask, if not please direct where to! Anyways, the only books I ever really read were the basic horror, thriller, mind-twist kina ordeals, but that's mostly cuz I've never really left my "comfort zone" of authors. So, I figure I could give y'all a general idea of what I'm lookin' for, and you could help me out? Haha, so there's two genres I'm interested in trying. The first is romance. But I don't mean the Fabio type of romance novels, like real relationships in book form. The cutesy young couple falling in love kind of ordeals, but with drama and realness thrown in there. The only thing I can really think of (as it's the only one I've read) is the short story "The Little Sisters of Eluria" by Stephen King.

As for my second, I'm not really sure what the genre would be named, the best guess I have is "slice of life" As in, a story of someones life basically, no evil clowns or whatever, but not a biography or anything like that. Again, someone with drama and the such would be preferred. Sorry if this makes little to no sense! I'm trying my best here! Haha but thanks for any help!

I'd recommend This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald for a novel dealing with the turmoil of love. It's about the cutesy type and it follows someone's life.

I'd also recommend In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. It's kind of horrific and a little biographical; cinematically contructed into a picturesque narrative.

Romance - Try "Romeo and Juliet" in a good, modern (lightly!) annotated edition, e.g. Macmillan and the Royal Shakespeare Company offer a fresh new edition based on the highly acclaimed RSC COMPLETE WORKS.

Slice of life - Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann
