I used to not like napping but now that I know how to do it correctly I'm a fan. I would love to nap out on my balcony but the swing isn't built for napping. When I'm fixin' to take a nap I usually head for the couch, where do ya'll go?

Used to be repelled nap time (when I was say maybe six), but now it's just plain addicting

How do you do it correctly? I didn't know there was a proper way.
I'm famous for falling asleep on the couch. I love to sleep on the deck in the summer, either on a lounge chair or a hammock. Nuts. I didn't use the hammock all summer this year.

I can't nap, as soon as I start to nod off, I get these really annoying adrenaline rushes which snap me right back to consciousness. It doesn't really makes me less tired, it just makes actually getting to sleep virtually impossible. And if I do, by some miracle of heaven, fall asleep, I am ridiculously grouchy when I wake up. I remember some former roommates doing everything they could to stop me from taking naps if I was tired, bribing me with all kinds of things, it was very lucrative for me.

The strangest place I've ever napped is in a road-side ditch. I was biking along a gravel farm road in the northern prairies of the US and just needed a rest. So I pulled off to the side of the road and fell asleep in the ditch next to a tuft of grass and an old Coke can.

Hi guys, the truth is I will sleep anywhere, so long as it is warm. I have fallen asleep in the most unusual places. Even on a chair in the kitchen resting my head on the Kitchen table. Fell asleep at the computer once and woke up with a page of zzzzzzzz's all over a novel I was writing. I have fallen asleep in the cinemas. Friends home... Sofa's, bean bags, floors (yes - hard floors) beds. Where ever I fall is where I land.:blush::blush::blush:

I'm a professional napper, I can take a nap practically anywhere.
For many summers I would drive to the sticks and ride my bicycle for two minutes, then put down a towel and go right to sleep under some shade. That was my summer indulgence, Phase I.
Phase II. I moved to the sticks, so there's no reason to even leave my house. I have a 6-foot wood bench on my deck and I'd nap there with one of my cats, Apricot, sleeping on my chest.
One of my favorite nap moments is on a moving train, I like the rocking when it's going somewhere. When it stalls, that wakes me up. Some evenings I'd just crash on the floor pillows in front of the tv in the middle of my tv shows, but I'd always stay wide awake for NCIS :D

I usually nap on the couch but I just don't have the time to nap these days. when I was younger, about 13 to 17 I'd go to the balcony with a mattress a pillow and a blanket and sleep for hours.. but then again I also loved sleeping at night under the table in the living room. my mom hated it, I was about 10 when I started it and did every now and then 'till I was 17 or so.

I can't usually relax enough to sleep and when I do everything at my house goes wrong. I've taken two naps this year. During the first nap my two boys decided to hike to the Adirondack Mountains. They took the first aid kit and the dog, but only made it to my neighbors house which is right at mile away. During the second nap they got into some fresh dirt left in our yard after having some dirt work done and got muddy from head to toe. You couldn't even tell what clothes they were wearing. I guess I'm the only one who knows that kids don't just watch themselves and it's not all bonbons and soap operas.

I never napped until a few years ago. I nap after an early shift because my body needs it. its usually around 3pm and by that point i'm already up 11.5 hours.

I think I can do it incorrectly. Or at least, I think if you always feel nauseous after taking a nap, there could be something wrong about the way you do it.
The only place I regularly take a nap (and don't feel sick afterwards) is on the plane. Couldn't take a whole journey without a quick nap. (And I do mean 'quick' here. It's always the same: The moment I am relaxed and asleep, my head falls forward and I jerk awake.)

My favourite place to nap is my bed (never my couch, it's too small and uncomfortable for that, when I have a bed too), but I've slept in some unusual places too. Mostly at school, when I've had a break and I've been really tired (which happens far too often, I must admit). I only started napping in my last year of upper secondary school, and after I started at the university, I've taken naps more and more. Sometimes a couple of times a day...
In upper secondary school we had sofas I used for napping. At university there's no such thing as a sofa anywhere I study, so that's out of question. While our department was still in Kouvola, I used to sleep on the chairs on hallways (they weren't very big, but they had armrests and as a rather small person I could curl myself into a ball and have a nap in them, often resulting with one or several of my limbs falling asleep too...). Last year I found one windowsill which was pretty much the only warm place in the university when the sun was shining, so I didn't mind the cold and hard stone.
In Helsinki there's not always even chair, so last Tuesday I took a nap on the floor of the hallway when I was waiting for my Swedish class to start... Really I was feeling so sick and tired that I didn't even care what people might think seeing me there. Later I did hear some comments like "I was like 'who's that homeless person sleeping there' and then I realised it was you." :p
I guess papayahed should hold tutorials on how to nap properly. :D
As for me, the best naps I remember having was on the couch. No furniture beats the couch.

When I used to take naps I think I slept too long because I'd always wake up feeling a little groggy with a slight headache and I couldn't figure out all the nap hype. But now I think I take shorter naps and wake up refreshed instead of headachey.

Papaya, were you saying "fixin' to" and "y'all" before moving to the south? Just wondering. :p
The one rule I've heard concerning naps is that you shouldn't nap in the same place you normally sleep (for most of us, I guess that would be our beds). I guess the reasoning is that your body is more likely to fall into too deep a sleep if it is in the same location where it always sleeps. You need a designated area away from your bed for naps only.

I think we should not sleep more than 3 hours at a time and take couple of naps during the day instead of one long stretch of night sleep.
I know I would be much happier then... Benefit both from night and daytime.

I did that a lot in my first year in the university. I did my homework until late at night and then slept very little at night before I went to school. After a 7 - 9 hours of school and walking back home I was so exhausted I just fell on the bed, slept for a few hours and woke up maybe at 10 p.m. to do my homework. Of course that took me half a night and then I didn't have much time to sleep before I had to wake up again...
I know for sure that didn't work for me very well, I was constantly exhausted and never felt relaxed :D But hey, to each their own :)

It becomes a viscious cycle. Sometimes it's best not to nap.
I do feel extra ordinarily tired today. I may sneak a nap myself :D

I know. I just could't force myself to do my homework after 9 hours of classes non-stop (possibly even without having any lunch) and the four-kilometre walk back home. Just the thought of that makes me yawn :yawnb:

Oh well, the names my fellow students come up describing my style aren't nearly as flattering as that Valkyrie theme of yours... One girl told me my style (dressing and so on) reminded her of a "luxurious bag-lady", "luxury" part because I often wear flowers in my hair, and the "bag-lady" for the rest of my attire :p
Neither, my student apartment in Kouvola where the translation department of Helsinki university used to be located until last spring. Kouvola is a small town (about 5 kilometres from one end to another) in South-East Finland a bit less than 150 kilometres from Helsinki (so from Kouvola it's shorter journey to Russia than to the capital :D).

I have a solution. Throw all of that modern academic outfit to the garbage can, find yourself a horse, an armour, and a good long spear and run your schoolmates through with it

The best part of the story you didn't hear yet: Another friend of mine who hadn't heard about the name bought me a necklace for Christmas, and guess what the label was called? That's right, it's a real Bag Lady necklace :D
I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough to take a nap in Russia, at least in a public place. I'm actually too afraid to travel there, at least as long as I don't have any friends who'd go with me who could speak Russian well (my language skills are far too poor to successfully communicate there).

That one I haven't tried yet, but I have tried a bed of nails. It was pretty nice actually, I could have slept in it if I'd had that possibility (which I didn't, because there were other people who wanted to try it and sleeping in the exhibition of a Science Centre is not usually recommended )
