I write this I want to blame losing it
on the desert, the heat, the color brown,
stiff landscapes, erratic maps - even as

I think maybe

it’s looking for me through a granite
window even as abrasive notes
grind the lyrics of

arresting suns and missive moons
into a lossy poem even

as I revolve around the word
to defuse the need to find it.
