Willy Maldonado 2
To be read after Hemmingway and with an accent like Antonio Banderas
He is full grown. Even a little grey. But that does not stop them. (the women) Like many things in life they are never ending. He will have it no other way. He doesn’t cook. They give him food. He’s never applied for food stamps. He has no EBT. Neither does he tap on a computer. He views them as hard, cold, unfeeling machines. He doesn’t hate them. He simply has no interest. He sees their folly. To him, they have no passion. His women have passion. That's good for him. He isn't politically correct. He hates political correctness. He eschews social responsibility. He will not be fixed. He will not let them fix him. His women wouldn't want it. It would put a dent in their social lives if you know what I mean. He’s pragmatic, yet knows nothing of pragmatism. He is brave and tough yet I have never seen him fight. He is a lover not a fighter. A tough lover. When he has them it is good. Who cares if a little hair is lost? They don’t. Passion is where a little can be lost but much can be gained. To have passion you must take a risk. That’s what makes it passion. He understands this. So do his women.
He is a night-owl but days suit him just as well. Rain or shine, sleet or snow, nothing keeps him from his appointed rounds. From his deliveries. They hear his voice. They know who it is. Their hearts flutter. Their blood races. They know it will be good. It always is. It always has been. They remember this. That’s why he has many repeat customers. That’s why he’s Willy Maldonado. In the evenings they sing under his window, as in Valencia or Madrid where it is the custom. They hope he will hear. They hope for an encounter. With him, they always get their way. With him, it is guaranteed.
To be with them he goes without. He goes without meals, without comfort, without sleep. They are his mission. They are his focus. He has a reputation. Sometimes for a man a reputation is all he has. For a man that is enough.
He’s simplified his life. He has no hidden agendas. His life has three parts. Eat, sleep, women. Not always in that order. So when you see him and he ignores you, don’t take it personal. He has more important things to do. Consider him well. Always show respect. Give him his due. For he is one of the few, one of the proud. He is original. He is himself. He is Willy Maldonado
