Been away a while... nice to be here again

In The Land Of Az - by Sophia

I shaved my legs every day this week
which is not noteworthy unless
you believe in signs and that a butterfly
can bring the alphabet down 15 degrees

because here Nights don’t die courageous
choking on a hyena wind that howls across
humpback mountain

its jackalope lightning thumping through
gangly forests. Scarecrow - come down
from that tower, you’re only provoking

St. Elmo’s fire. Let’s hide inside this tinderbox.
Paint a crimson cross on the window to fool
the winged monkeys and I’ll

push our soaked linens under the door. We'll
be quiet as the blistering poster suspended
over the battered headboard that insists

making love is not the same as being
loved. My legs are shaved
I’m ready.

Very lovely imagery with the animal references! Enjoyable poetry!

Thanks Pendragon! A jackalope of course isn't real LOL. (I just love the never ending edit option on this site... )

Wonderful Sophia. Not sure I understood it all, but I think I get the drift. So nice to see you back. :)
