I know it's tough to decide but we must put this issue to bed.
Coke with a cocktail, Pepsi plain. Any help? ;)

Coke Zero for me though I am off fizzy drinks altogether... Well, Coke Zero only as that was the only fizzy drink I used to have. Never been a fan of Fanta or Sprite kinds.

Coke Zero tastes more like normal Coke, but without the fuzzy, sugar-coated feeling on your teeth after.

no, pepsi is really good. for a while, they were selling Pepsi throwback which was Pepsi sweetened with actual sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. But they stopped selling it. I read the sugar tariff is real high and that's why all the soft drinks in America are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. I can't find Pepsi Throwback anymore though. :(

What's the difference between Coke zero and Diet Coke?
I think it's a different type of artificial sweetner. Supposedly Coke Zero is closer to a regular Coke taste. I haven't tasted it enough to verify.

Coke all the way! I always liked the taste better.
Plus, there is a sort of superficial reason I have. I grew up in Columbus where scarlet is very prominent and represents the home team (Ohio State's colors are scarlet and gray), and blue represents the bad guys (Michigan, "maize" and blue) so I always associated Coke and Pepsi by their respective colors and their respective colors by the team they represent in my mind. Dumb I know but it's so fully ingrained.

Where's the option for store brand cola?
I drink neither. Both are overpriced, sugar filled, fizzy rubbish that rots your bones. And it's addictive. Give me a nice glass of milk or water any day.
If I was forced to drink one or the other it'd be Pepsi. I find Coca Cola oppressively sweet

Sweeteners vary between countries anyway - when I was still working in the supermarket, I just told people it's a difference in packaging.
Supposedly though, Canadian coke tastes better than American coke - I don't drink either regularly, but supposedly the sweetener is better.

There's a difference in taste between where it's made? I would have thought the process was standardized.

In Atlanta there is a place you can to called World of Coke and they have different varieties and flavors of Cokes sold all over the world and those flavors were vary different from what we have in the States. They had ginger coke - I remember that as being odd. I think that is sold in China but I'm not sure. Some of it was god awful but it has been so long that I can't remember which ones I really hated.

Hmm, I guess so, but I would have developed a process that makes uniform the hardness of the water. Can't you add minerals to the water to soften it? Or what about distilling the water? Doesn't that bring it to a basic chemistry? (Not sure that's the right way to express that last question, but I think you know what I mean.) Of course all those things would probably increase the price.

yeah, you can do all those things - the easier would be the distilling it to remove the hardness. this of course is something they have to do anyway for filtering their machines etc. Oh, and todays usless piece of info for anyone that drinks aquafina or dasani - did you know until the bottled water craze hit that was basically a waste stream for coke & pepsi? You are now paying for their garbage; well done and only at a huge increase in cost to the wonderful water coming out of your tap

 Actually that is true I believe for all sodas, not just coke. Really there's a price difference between coke and pepsi where you live? I don't believe so here, though perhaps (and I'm just going by my perception) coke tends to be on sale more often.

yes - it depends on what you're drinking out of as to how it tastes. Coke Classic in plastic bottles isn't worth the calories or tooth decay, but there's nothing better than a cold coke in an old class bottle or a fountain coke when the carbonated water and syrup is mixed right. And i don't mind cold coke in a 12 ounce can either.
Pepsi is better than coke in the bottles but sometimes in the cans it's too sweet...I've had that happen before.

Odd, because Pepsi has more sugar in it...
It's hard for me to decide. I voted Pepsi, but I've drank much more Coke in my life. I always tell people that Coke is my true love, and Pepsi's my mistress.
I used to be a Coke addict. () Sometimes I could drink as many as 5 cans a day. But when you drink so much soda, it just isn't the same anymore. That's how I met Pepsi. And that new logo...I love it. I don't even know why, I just find it aesthetically pleasing. Coke's packaging is so last year.
I was surfing the web and I found this: New Pepsi Logo Design (http://bunnitude.com/misc/files/pepsi_gravitational_field.pdf). Supposedly the logo is based on the golden ratio. Yeah, I'm not sure what to think either.
And yes, I found the logo aesthetically pleasing before I read that. I mean, just look at this:

I looked it up on wikipedia and apparently it's exclusive to the Midwest/South. Steak 'n Shake is the prime watering hole for those on a low budget. It has sort of a fifties flavor, with themed waiter uniforms and tables. Their specialties are steakburgers and milkshakes and boy howdy are they divine. No, I love Pepsi! However, I have not had Pepsi now for awhile. Believe it or not, I liked it better when it had sacharin in it; I had gotten used to that flavor since I only drink diet. Also, I am not suppose to drink it with my medical problems and if I do, I have to use a natural substance that neutralizes the acid. I liked it better when they didn't use aspertane; someone told me that when that substance reaches body temperature, it actually turns into formaydahyde...not sure how much truth there is to that; but when I do drink it, I find I get aches in my legs sometimes. Heck, why do all the good things end up being detrimental to you? I desire a Pepsi once in awhile and then I drink one anyway.

I could go either way, I don't really like cola that much.
As an interesting anecdote about Pepsi. In Quebec it's stereotypically considered a French Canadian drink because Pepsi associated itself with francophone advertising and eventually with separatist celebrities. It reached a point where "a Pepsi" became a derogatory term for a French Canadian amongst Montreal anglophones, although it's considered a bit old fashioned now. Today Quebec is one of the few places in the world where Pepsi outsells coke.

I don't know. Apparently it's only offered for a limited time in limited places. Like, papaya is in LA I think and I am in Tennessee. We had it here in Tennessee a few months ago but now they don't sell it here anymore. But, it looks like they're selling it LA now. So, i guess it's making the rounds. I think it's difficult to distribute because it's made with real sugar instead of HFCS and real sugar is more expensive etc.

Do you have Pepsi in the UK at all? What is it sweetened with? Actually, it doesn't even have to be a Pepsi - what's in your soft drinks? Do they have high fructose corn syrup? Most all the soft drinks here in the USA are sweetened with High Fructose Corn Syrup instead of sugar and I was thinking that High Fructose Corn Syrup was a sweetner used primarily in the USA.

Of course we have Pepsi! I'm not sure what it's sweetened with though, I've never thought to look to be honest. If I was inclined to do so, I would go and search in the bin for a can, but I'm not. Will they not make it the same for every country?

no I'm pretty sure most places sweeten their pepsi and coke with plain old natural sugar. in the united states we sweeten everything with high fructose syrup. and everyone here is fat. but I could so go for a pepsi right now. I'm dying of thirst.

I think it's way cheaper to use high fructose corn syrup then sugar (at least in the US).
In the European Union (EU), HFCS, known as isoglucose or glucose-fructose syrup:, is subject to a production quota. In 2005, this quota was set at 303,000 tons; in comparison, the EU produced an average of 18.6 million tons of sugar annually between 1999 and 2001.[30] Therefore, wide scale replacement of sugar has not occurred in the EU. In Japan, HFCS consumption accounts for one quarter of total sweetener consumption.

I voted Coke. I only drink Diet Coke or Cola Zero though... ok, I'll admit I'm a Diet Coke adict, I can go through anything from 3 to 6 cans a day. But I can't drink either 'proper' Coke or Pepsi or any other fizzy drink because it makes my teeth "furry". I get massive cavities as soon as I'm anywhere near a sugared fizzy drink.
wow, this is the first time I've ever heard about that high glucose syrup.
my husband's colleague said that the zero calorie sweeteners in Diet Coke cause cavities. Have you guys heard about that? I hope it's not true, otherwise I'll either have to kick the habit or I've got my next 30 root canals planned out for me.

I'm a Coca-Cola girl, no other way to go. Pepsi is far too sweet for me:) I do like all the other Pepsi products, though, but only Coke will do for cola and cherry cola.

Do they still make cherry cola?

Coca~Cola drinker here...
I will drink Pepsi when forced to (when restaurants only serve Pepsi products), but between the two, it's definitely Coke here!

Oh, I want to try some Coke from the US now, to taste the difference. What's a 'mac and cheese'?
macaroni and cheese.

When only Pepsi products are served, I hope and pray they have Dr. Pepper.

I used to like to mix cream soda with orange or grape soda, soooo good. I'm baffled that someone hasn't heard of mac and cheese.

Ah. I haven't seen that in Australia since... wow...

I've heard of it. I've been raised on Macaroni.
DIET COKE
not because it's diet, just for the taste.
I don't even really know what Pepsi tastes like, wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I used to never drink Coke-like stuff before I moved to the UK. Then I started because in social situations, what do I drink... at home I'd drink Ice Tea but not available here in bars... I turned to beer as well as Coke but I don't always want beer, I didn't like it either before coming to the UK. Of course in certain occasion I drink beer and other alcoholic stuff, but I'm talking of plain drinks, not big nights out.
And whisky and coke is okay :D
My friend Bart standing behind me urges me to tell you that he thinks this is not a valid discussion because it's a matter of taste. Yes, he's boring and I told him so :D He says however we could discuss commercials

Well, in that case, Coke definitely wins! Pepsi really doesn't have anything to compare to the classic, "I'd like to buy the world a coke"...or a symbol that has become as beloved as the coke polar bears and didn't they do a lot to shape our modern image of Santa Claus? No contest! :p

Am bummed that Costco has switched their fountains from Coke to Pepsi. Am especially bummed that this does not include root beer.

I prefer Pepsi although I predominantly drink Diet Coke because my mother drinks it and she is the one who does the shopping... Perhaps I only think I prefer Pepsi because I do not have it as much. Ah well. Pepsi Max is the nicest of all.

This is an old but timely thread nevertheless as I seldom drink cola except as a mixer with brandy. I'm not fussy but generally I prefer Pepsi cola in this instance and have a pack right next me to now to go with a bottle of Armagnac brandy.

I don't drink either one, unless it is late at night and I'm on the road and I stop at a McDonald's, or some fast food place that is still open, mainly because I'm tired, and then I order a burger, fries and a drink. That's when I have to choose.
In that situation, I usually pick a Mountain Dew, if it's available, because I'm under the illusion it is higher in caffeine and higher in sugar than the other options, whatever they were. I hope it will keep me awake.
