Ive got to say that the red and the black by Stendhal is a great masterpiece.
Any fans of Dostoevsky will love the psychological insight of this book.
The best novel i have read as of yet. Had me gripped from the first page to the last with tears, fears, insights and laughter. Fantastic.

Written by Stendhal, is a historical psychological novel in two volumes, chronicling a provincial young man’s attempts to socially rise beyond his modest upbringing with a combination of talent and hard work, deception and hypocrisy — yet who ultimately allows his passions to betray him.

This is one of my all time favorite novels. I read it when I was about 19 and then read everything else. Love was awesome.

I should re-read him. I notice he was not in the top 100 authors on this site. Nor was Bocaccio.
