Many analogous parallels are used effectively here and give rise to a great spectrum of feelings. I cannot imagine the loss of a child. My youngest has decided to live with his mother, despite my finest manipulations -- BUT HE IS FINE! He simply lives a couple hundred miles away, but still it hurts.
The moon itself is a dichotomy of temperature : searing hot on the sunny side, deathly cold in the dark. I have some pain from an injury I received, nerve pain. Often, the pain feels like icy frozen flesh. Never before have I enjoyed, required really, the warming rays of the sun in my face, on my body -- it seems almost an antidote for the pain of ice. Your poem here (and I believe it is a poem) effectively uses these elements within me very effectively in painting a picture of grief and loss.
