I was able to watch some of the dances on TV last night. I loved Ellenore and Jakob's contemporary dance. I usually like all of Sonya's routines. I haven't seen every dance, but after seeing Ellenore's amazing Argentine tango earlier this season, and her quirky solos, she should be able to make it to the finals.

I hated Noelle and Ryan's hip hop. That was not hip hop. The choreography looked like it was taken from S3's "Sweet Dreams." But unlike "Sweet Dreams," this routine was awful.

I'm glad that Noelle was eliminated tonight. I didn't think that she deserved to remain in the competition after getting a free pass in the first week.

I haven't watched most of the S6 performances, but from what I have gathered from other forums, there haven't been many standout performances. This is what happens when there are two seasons back to back. The choreographers are running out of ideas.

I could have watched it on Tuesday and Wednesday since they're just showing reruns on my regular shows. But I'm so burnt out, I can't watch another one until next spring. The back to back thing is so not working for me.

I usually watch The Biggest Loser on Tuesdays at 8PM, so I'm not able to watch SYTYCD. But The Biggest Loser ends next week, and so I might watch S6 if I'm not too dance-d out.

NCIS will be all new starting next week, so no chance of me switching over. I think it's also because it's so frigging cold here now, I can't watch people wearing clothes the size of a tissue while my teeth is chattering.

This is SYTYCD we're talking about, though, so there will never be any good Latin/hip hop (basically any non-contemporary/jazz) dances.

^ Don't be so quick to dismiss foxtrots and quicksteps. It's just that SYTYCD never casts enough ballroom dancers, and so most of the ballroom dances are subpar. Even Brandon couldn't pull off a foxtrot.

He did a foxtrot in Week 1. It wasn't that great. I don't think that Brandon does slow and subtle well; he's more of a power dancer.

The only thing I like about it is the long, flowy dresses :D

Yeah, the dress was on a stand, and he danced around it. That was one of the more creative ballroom solos on the show, LOL.

The regionals for ABDC are over, and 9 crews are going to the nationals to compete for the title.

After two seasons of fantastic female crews (Beat Freaks and We Are Heroes), there will be no such female crews this season.

Omarion replaced Shane Sparks as a judge.

A Canadian crew is competing, representing the East Coast. The show is called America's Best Dance Crew. They're really good, but why is a Canadian crew even eligible?

A crew that jumps rope is also competing. Really? Jumping rope on a hip hop dance show? They're entertaining, but that's not dance.

A crew did their first performance to Taylor Swift's "Love Story." Their robotic movement and isolations were very good. And props to them for tutting to Taylor Swift!

There's a crew that is made up of overweight guys, and they want to prove that their size doesn't hinder their talent.

There's also a crew that features contemporary dancers. I'm on the fence about them because if I want to see contemporary dance, I'll watch SYTYCD. The judges had an argument amongst themselves over whether "trained" dancers are able to embody the "attitude" and "rawness" of hip hop.

The other four crews are kind of boring, so I won't talk about them (until they pull out a spectacular performance later on in the season.)

Even these two videos rely quite a bit on special effects. Take out the flames and the floating ball, what's left is arm movements, and you dont' see a lot of footwork. That's because the feet and toes in hip hop are so unnatural, really only guys can wing it. Parts of these two female performances look a bit like jazz. The lines between jazz and hip hop are blurring.

I agree. However, I just wanted to point out that both of those female crews relied on their talent, not their sexuality. It's not often we see that on ABDC.

no doubt these two crews are good, great showmanship. They accomplished more than what I expect from any female hip hop dancer.

Changes for SYTYCD Season 7:

Only one dancer will go home each week.
Partners will change every week.
There will be no Top 20 (ie. fewer than 20 dancers will be competing).
Dancers will not choose their genre of dance.
Fewer than 4 dancers will compete on the finale.
"All-Star" dancers from Seasons 1-6 will act as dance partners.
Mary Murphy will choreograph and judge.
Mia Michaels will return to choreograph.
Twitch from S4 is the first confirmed "All-Star" dancer; will specialize in hip hop.
The judges will decide which dancer will go home based on the bottom 3 vote-getters.

I think Nigel is trying to revamp the show, but is failing miserably. Most of these changes are terrible.

I didn't watch much of S6, either, and I'm not too excited about S7 at the moment.

Poreotix won ABDC. Meh. I preferred Blueprint Cru, but unfortunately, they just didn't bring it in their final performance.

The group performances on the finale were also meh. The show needs to cast better crews.

On another note, Nigel has announced more All-Star dancers for SYTYCD7. They are: S3 Lauren, S4 Comfort, S5 Ade, S2 Allison, S3 Pasha, and S6 Kathryn.

Neil is rumoured to be an All-Star dancer, and that spoiler source is very reliable, so I guess this means that Neil will grace our television screens this summer. I'm sure you'll be very happy about this, Haunted.

I'd love to see Anya as well. Just wished Pasha would be there too. I don't care for Dominic and I don't know Mark as I missed all of S4.

How could I have missed this post?? That's awesome. They needed it to revive the S6 slump. I imagine not many people watched. I was too burnt out myself.

Love love love Allison, she's my all time favorite female dancer. It'd be nice to see Ivan and Trevis as well. Hope they'll bring those two back.

Travis has confirmed that he will be choreographing, and will not be an All-Star dancer.

Nigel said that there will be 12 All-Star dancers - 6 guys and 6 girls. There are only two dancers left for Nigel to announce - 1 guy and 1 girl. The girl is rumoured to be S4 Courtney, and the guy is rumoured to be Neil.

So if you want Ivan, the Neil rumour would have to be wrong. So you can't have both Neil and Ivan, Haunted. :p

I think SYTYCD is trying to copy DWTS with the inclusion of the All-Star dancers. It's kind of funny because DWTS was trying to copy SYTYCD, too.

I wouldn't miss one episode of S7. When does it start?

The All-Star will be paired with a contestant of the opposite sex, and partners will change weekly. The All-Stars will not choreograph the routines; they simply act as the partner (in their specialty). As such, viewers will not be voting for the All-Stars because they are not the ones competing.

The All-Stars perform with the contestants every week; an All-Star with a contestant of the opposite sex. There are more All-Stars than contestants, so I assume the All-Stars will rotate weekly.

Getting ready for mediocre/bad ballroom and hip hop yet again.

The show has always been pretty heavy on the contemporary dance, but I'll give it a watch before I give up on this season. I've always found the solos from the ballroom dancers awkward anyway.

I'm not sure about this all-star thing, I'll withhold judgment until I see it in action.
