hey all
im having trouble with the meaning behind the third stanza to the following poem, if someone could please be so kind as to explain it to me.My english teacher has given us her own interpretation which sounds a bit disjointed to me.
also if someone could point out the cryptic figures of sppech that would be another life saver
Any help will be appreciated
thanxx

Here's the poem:- an elementary school classroom in a slum by Stephen Spendor

Far far from gusty waves these children's faces.
Like rootless weeds, the hair torn around their pallor.
The tall girl with her weighed-down head. The paper-
seeming boy, with rat's eyes. The stunted, unlucky heir
Of twisted bones, reciting a father's gnarled disease,
His lesson from his desk.

3rd stanza- maybe Shakespeare and the map show a world of promise for the students, one which they'd have to steal and beg in order to persue?
