Females everywhere chatter more than males. I wonder why gossiping typifies women making them chatterboxes.

Is this hormonal effect or some genetic content?

I think this is the truth not the gender bias.

I hope this does not anger the female class. If I am wrong I will be apologize.

I feel free to put across questions that pop up inside me seeking appropriate answers.

For I believe this Forum has liberally minded people and anything raised here will not be taken personally or subjectively.

Sorry, for now I don't have much to say, not time to say it. I'm only posting because I want to put a little tab on this discussion (i.e. that little arrow in the post's icon). I don't want to miss this :)

huh, the biggest chattery gossips ( and by far the female doggyest) are male.
I just have to say that.
Mind you i would say perhaps historically speaking it was because women were not less busy but only had mindless stupid tasks to do so it frees up your mind and loosesn your tonuges alot more.

Women may chatter more, but that doesn't mean that men gossip less.

I wonder how you got to this conclusion, both men and women talk a lot when they're together and haven't got much else to do (or when what they have to do doesn't demand one's full concentration).

As to the sterotypes, I suggest you do some research, every stereotype has a historical background of course, thought to assume that because of it they're valid is something else.

There are both vaild and unvalid social concepts, like there's folk wisdom but also superstition.

Is this hormonal effect or some genetic content?

I don't exactly see how it'd be hormonal effect, since hormones influence people, but not to such a degree (unless in some specific cases).

Genetic content? I don't think so, but you can always watch documentaries on genetics, read scientific magazines etc.

I think this is the truth not the gender bias.

It should be an "a" there. You don't have to keep saying that you don't think it's bias, if you're saying it, it couldn't be because of thought it was bias.

I hope this does not anger the female class.

I'm not sure how it could, this is a stereotype, a clichè, I doubt is a new concept to anyone by now.

I know plenty of males that chatter more than thier female counterpart. I have also noticed that many females do not chatter at all and instead have intelligent conversations about nailpolish and hairproducts, whereas males tend to have a conversation about the same subject in a different context.

it's funny my boyfriend was saying like 10 minuets ago that he dosen't understand how I can talk to my friend for over an hour on the phone, but that has nothing to do with gossip. I think men and women both gossip but it's also different between people.

So true men are worse for gossip

Okay I confess. I have gossiped lately... and even before that... and surely I will gossip in the near future... and I'm a man :D

I believe gossip is inherent to our human nature, so every single one of us has gossiped and will keep doing it sometimes.

On the other hand, I believe that ladies have a better ability to develop a single subject of conversation. Whenever a man runs out of arguments, ladies can come up with a new one. From apparently simple topics, they have the talent of squeezing details; something that I, as a man, cannot do.

But seriously, anyone who has taught beginner readers will tell you that (most) girls are more advanced linguistically than (most) boys at the age of five. Boys' Reading Ages lag behind girls' RA, sometimes with a difference of almost a year - they catch up after a year or so, but often girls remain ahead of boys in linguistic skills, (on the whole, not all girls, not all boys, obviously). Please accept this as anecdotal evidence as I can't lay my hands on the research evidence atm. It's been suggested that girls spend more time in social activities at a young age, thus developing their verbal skills, whereas boys indulge in more robust, physical activities.

Or is it, I wonder, an evolutionary thing - women have less physical strength to fight their way out of trouble, so they talk their way out? ;)

Because men are happier than women. . . . "Oh, and did you know that women like to talk poorly about other women to make themselves feel better? I think it's a self-esteem issue that's pervasive in the female ranks. But of course, I don't know any women HERE who have those issues. Oh, it's all just a chauvinistic ribble-rabble anyhow. I mean the men here are just as bad as the women. I mean really the men are the true gossipers, don't you know? Just the other day I heard that mono and jocky were talking about . . . . and then well, I understand that The Atheist and The Comedian don't mean half the stuff they says and don't know the other half. But who am I to gossip. I hate gossip."

See?

EDIT: I thought of one more reason why men gossip less: we drink more.

I have experienced some of this myself. I have seen more girls paying attention to language constructions than I have seen boys paying it. Girls care more, apparently, about grammar, orthography and so on, while boys apparently care only about the best method to kick a ball

I have often seen the same women fighting their ways out of trouble at times physically, and at times linguistically. And there are times when they make combinations :p :D

the real question is, what is it with men that gives women so much to talk about? :D

Well in my psychology class I learned that women have female-female relationships for trust and stuff-they tell each other their problems. Why this is, I don't know. Hormones most likely I guess. (Much more drama when that estrogen skyrockets! :P) Males don't do this as much and I can't remember why and I can't remember what male-male relationships are more like-probably more like, "Hey, let's do something like watch football." (I am stereotyping, shoot me.)

It is also said that men like to explain things more, which makes them talk more, obviously. This seems to be pretty plausible from my own experience where I've had to listen to my guy friends talk endlessly about Greek myths, that one video game about Zelda, or Dungeons and Dragons. :P

Hmm... maybe... the same that gives men so much to talk about women, but when they are not heard, so everyone keeps the wrong belief that men don't talk, when they actually do it... in secret gloomy talks where girls are not allowed :cold: ... :D

The broom closet AND the men's room AND some other tight corners, like in bars while playing billiards... hey, wait, did I say tight corners... with men? What am I suggesting, uh? ...
