Congratulations fellow poetry geek! With some lines stolen from Crossroads by Joyce Sutphen I salute you.
"I will land on my feet this time,
knowing at least two languages and who
my friends are. I will dress for the
occasion, and my hair shall be
whatever color I please.
Everyone will go on celebrating the old
birthday, counting the years as usual,
but I will count myself new from this
inception, this imprint of my own desire."

Happy Birthday mono! :)
Papayahed, CC, Lynne, Janine, Neely, Virgil, Helga, Isagel (fellow poetry geek ;)), Nightshade, Joreads, Comedian, Logos, jinjang (via elsewhere), thank you so much for the warm birthday wishes. I had a fantastic day, relaxing, spending time with some family and friends, wandering around the rose gardens of Washington Park, embracing the florals, e. e. cummings accompanying me, and even did a bit of writing - much how I would have preferred to spend the day.
Thank you again, everyone. :)

Veritas numquam perit May it be ever so in your world! Happy Birthday (belatedly) Mono!
Thank you, Niamh (and for the lovely gift - The Modern Library, nice!) and qimissung (et veritas vos liberabit - ugh, my Latin has gone sour!).
Hopefully my interview will get posted soon . . . ? :)

A very belated birthday wish, Mono!
Hope you had a great day and pleasing gifts to go along with it! ;)
Why are we doing this interview thing?
Everybody likes talking about themselves, reflecting upon hypothetical things, and such, especially on their birthdays. Why do this? What else should we do?
Are you sure you want to do this?
Sure.
Got milk?
1/2 gallon of it, 1%, as well as soy milk.
Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
Someone who did not need a lot of sneakiness, while I tried to think of a witty answer to this question.
If you had a personal theme song what would it be?
"My Name is Mud" by Primus.
Are you male or female?
Male, though I have no idea why so many people thought me female when I first joined.
What makes you keep coming back?
There are a lot of other literary geeks where I live, but I have made such good friends here, enjoy the discussions, and the diversity of opinions (not to mention the diversity of people). I have been a member here for some years, and I think a lot can be said on the subject of habit; coming here has ended up as somewhat of a routine enjoyment, much like taking the longer road to work, because it is more scenic.
Are you happy with the way things are here?
Sure, but I have always wondered how the place would go with a politics subforum. :D
Which countries have you visited?
I live in the United States, and have visited Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, and I am currently planning a trip to Japan to see a friend.
How do you like your home town?
Portland, a great place to call home.
If you could live somewhere different, where would it be and why?
I feel comfortable in my current place, but feel open to spontaneity. If I did live somewhere different, I would feel inclined to go outside the U.S.
Do you have any pets?
Two cats.
What makes you happy?
I suppose what makes everyone happy, the family-friends-a-good-book-freedom-pets-life-love-lust-result-of-hard-work-appreciating-the-small-things-hiking-a-good-song-movies-laughing-traveling thing, and Aristotle thought in Nicomachean Ethics true happiness, according to its full definition, impossible, due to human fickleness, but there have existed a few moments in life, perhaps a flash in a pan, where everything seemed right, and those brief moments are indescribable.
What is mankind's biggest achievement, and its greatest downfall?
Politics.
Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God/atheism?
. . . or lack thereof (of both), yes.
Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?
I would think it interesting to have an animated movie based upon my life - not restricted to visual creativity. As to who would speak the voice of my character? Someone with a dull, monotonous voice, maybe Ben Stein.
Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
A cat, provided I had a home - Hedonism and simplicity at its best!
What were your favorite things to do the past? What about now?
In general, not a lot has changed - reading, writing, hiking, bicycling, reflection, baseball, discussing interesting subjects.
What makes you feel great about yourself?
Working in medicine, finishing the composition of a poem or play, crawling between the sheets of a freshly clean bed, hiking or bicycling to the top of a hill.
How did you meet your significant other?
N/A.
Who inspires you most?
In the same way that no one uninspires me, no one especially inspires me.
What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)
I have an uncanny ability at boring people.
What is the one thing you must do before you die?
See for myself if that life-flashes-before-your-eyes thing before one dies is true.
If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
If I "had" to teach something? Hopefully under voluntary circumstances, I would teach something about medicine - neurology, endocrinology, infectious diseases.
What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?
Not fully doing - education.
Not fully being - way too difficult to answer.
Not fully having - health.
What method do you cherish above all others, as means to improving your life?
Open-mindedness comes to mind.
What is your role in an emergency situation: the 911 dialer, the person who runs to the scene to help, the video recorder, or the person too overcome by shock to do anything?
Fortunately, I rarely have to "run to the scene," whether at work or in public, but I always find myself in that role. Even when not at work, I seem to do great at walking out my apartment building door to a bicycle crash (really), being at the restaurant where a guy chokes (seriously), or being at the cafe where a pregnant woman's water breaks (no kidding). The only reason I do not just stay home all of the time is that I do not want the paraglider in cardiopulmonary arrest flying through my living room window.
What one thing would you NEED to have on a deserted island if you didn't have to worry over food and water?
Clothing would come in handy.
What song is in your head at the moment?
Led Zeppelin seems a constant repetition in my head.
Which book are you reading at the moment?
The Capital: Volume 1 by Karl Marx.
The last book you finished reading?
The Fall by Albert Camus.
What is your favourite quote?
Impossible to narrow down to one.
Favorite food?/ Comfort food?
Anything Mediterranean or Indian, that also happens to be vegetarian.
What time of day do you most often find yourself on the LitNet?
Either really late at night, or really early in the morning.
What are you wearing at the moment?
Currently, a very soft blue robe.
Favorite poem?
Even more impossible to narrow down to one.
First novel you remember reading on your own?
Likely something by Dr. Seuss, maybe Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.
What era do you find most of the books you read are from?
Mostly late-19th century to mid-20th century.
Favorite TV shows?
I watch very little TV these days, but Jeopardy, if anything.
Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?
I enjoy the presence of almost everyone here, and would love to meet them, but one can say a lot of the desired and embraced anonymity of this place and its people, and what it/we imply(ies). Relatively few of us have met in real life and even fewer see each other from time to time - why change that, other than for reasons to satisfy curiosity? The everyday anonymity prevents those in my presence from seeing my thoughts I post on the forum almost daily, and the physically distant forumers encounter parts of me people around me will likely never encounter. Though I have met a few fellow forumers, and had a blast, in most cases I choose self-preservation.
Last words you said out loud?
"Well, hello there," to one of my cats.
Last person you hugged/kissed?
My friend Mark (hugged).
What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?
I work full-time as a critical care RN, and love it; otherwise, I make a few dollars on the side as a playwright, and love that, too.
What question would you like to ask yourself?
"Why don't you ever talk to yourself?"
What would you like to be if you could change your profession?
When studying literature and creative writing in college, one of the few options seemed teaching - I could have gone with that.
What is your most outstanding feature?
Most people recall me by my bald head; ironic, because before I started shaving my head, many people would remark on my shiny, black hair.
If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?
In the words of Skee-Lo: "I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller, I wish I had a girl who looked good, I would call her, I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat, and a 64 Impala."
Which book do you wish you had written?
I figure my own as good enough for me.
What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
Probably cleaning my apartment.
If you could only rescue one item from your burning house, what would it be, and why?
I have no doubt my cats would run out of the burning house with me (if not, them), but otherwise I would take a handmade quilt made for me by my greatgrandmother. She gave it to me precisely 27 years ago. Unfortunately, I do not remember her, because she passed away 2 months later.
Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?
Batman, under all circumstances.
Anything that you want to forget but you never can?
Yes, but I forgot them.
Tell us about some amusing translation mistake you have heard or made yourself.
Not exactly a "translation mistake," but the responses to American slang tend to really amuse me. I will never forget the facial expressions of the Portuguese couple, when leaving the cafe where I met them, after I said "take care, I'm going to go kill time."
Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?
One must always be in pursuit of something.
What type of Faerie would you like to be and why?
A heterosexual one.
What makes you laugh?
That last question.
What part of “Final” don’t you understand?
Why it's pronounced so differently from "finale."
One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?
Typing more than one word of wisdom sounds awfully generous, and, upon that subject, some words of wisdom from Camus: "Too many people have decided to do without generosity in order to practice charity . . . [they] climb atop the cross merely to be seen from a greater distance."

Great interview Mono. I enjoyed it. As to this:
Are you male or female?
Male, though I have no idea why so many people thought me female when I first joined.
I think it had to do with the avatar you had at the time. It suggested a woman.

Thank you, Scher (and for posting the interview), Stargazer, Janine (good to hear my "cunning abilities" did not prove too successful in compelling boredom), Virgil (I never thought of it that way, but you could be right, my friend), and Joreads; and thank you for the interview - I had a lot of fun! :D

Hey Orlando, your birthday celebration has been going on a whole two weeks!
hahaha...I knew you were a guy from day one....come on, a girl wouldn't call herself mono. What is the significance behind that name, mono? I have always wanted to ask you that question. Everytime I hear it, I can't help but think of the 'kissing disease'; I had that when I was about 6. mononucleosis (sp?). Is it also a singing group? Of course, it could just mean singular - right?...or do you like 'mono' vinyl records?

Thank you, thank you, Pensive and kizzo! No need to apologize, as even I felt a bit reluctant to acknowledge my birthday this year, let alone celebrate it, so I embrace the warm wishes. :D

Sorry, I did not see your question earlier - no intention of ignoring you, Janine. ;)
No, I definitely did not derive my name from mononucleosis (my throat still stings and burns even thinking of the word!), nor from neither of the two musical groups (both of whom, one Japanese, one British, I love), and I remember Scher even asking me if I got it from "monolith." Honestly, I have no idea what possessed me, years ago, when choosing this screen-name; I wanted something simple, short, and I recall reading a lot of Emerson at the time, so my mind swam in several ideas of unity, oneness, and all that somewhat hokey-sounding stuff (Emerson said it so much better, and has still not ceased to amaze me). That "mono" chances as a prefix seems only a coincidence.
