For me this is quite easy as I think about it a lot (too much):

1 Italy – anywhere in Italy I think, (think of the art) but most obviously the obvious: Venice, Rome, Florence, Sicily, Capri, though I am sure there are many other places I would love to stubble across. I see Italy as the most beautiful place on earth, the most cultured and artistic country of all. They also invented the pizza and have shed loads of red wine, oh, heaven!

2 France – again, I really want to go to France, and it is so damn close! Places to visit would be about anywhere in the south of France and Paris. Really, watching the Tour de France this year it was obvious that the real winner was, the country itself, stunning. Red wine is cheap too.

3 UK – Cornwall – I’ve been close, to Torquay twice, but Cornwall is the one place in the UK I’d really like to go. I would be more than content sitting in a small deserted rocky bay watching and listening to the sea crash against the rocks. Of course I’d take a few books too. It is about a nine hour trip from where I live and at the moment this is not really practical.

4 Greece – Athens and getting lost island hopping sounds pretty cool to me. An old friend of mine fell asleep on a ferry and got lost whilst island hopping, lucky I think (he found his way back eventually).

5 Spain – Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Madrid, I’d like to take a tour around these cities and sit outside a few cafes in the sun. It’s a shame that my family wasted our visits to Spain in the common coastal areas when we could have visited these places, but then again I would have been young and wouldn’t have appreciated them at that age.

6 Belgium – Brussels, simply for the beer, Belgium has the best beer in the world. I’ve read that a typical bar holds around 200 beers and some specialist beers can only be bought in Belgium itself, nuff said.

So these are mine.

More than anywhere, I want to visit Rio De Janeiro (and Brazil, in general) - after watching the film 'City of God' many-a-time.

Egypt- for the pyramids and the museums of course.

Turkey- Hagia Sophia!!!

Japan- straight to Akihabara to purchase anime goods.

Spain- I want to study in the University of Salamanca, actually. Plus, I want to see the magnificent Alhambra, the aqueducts in Segovia, the caves in Altamira, and of course, the Jewish synagogues transformed into Catholic churches.

China- Wanna go to Guilin. Didn't go there when I visited China last year. HMP!

Canada- to hunt down someone I really want to meet.

UK, Italy, France- lots of museums :)

Israel- to make friends with Jews and learn Hebrew, that is, if get to stay there for a long time.

Chicama Point, Peru! Maybe the world's longest left-hand pointbreak! 'Twould be so amazing to surf it.

Mallorca -- to do some deep water soloing... maybe persistently fail at climbing Sharma's Es Pontas

Patagonia

Your assessment of countries you wish to visit matches your obvious taste in literature. You are quite right about Italy which is truly spectacular, especially Rome and Venice but also Capri, all of which remain among my most treasured memories.

France is also spectacular although I only know the south of France and Paris, which I have visited so many times it seems like a second home.

As you know, Cornwall has a dual coastline with dramatic locations but I found an umbrella to be the most essential visitor's necessity.

I have not been to Greece.

I spent a couple weeks in Seville which is a fascinating city and about as different from the costa's as you can get, which is one reason that I went there. I regret that I didn't visit Madrid, I would have liked to have seen the Escoriale and the wonderful sights that recall the grandeur of Spain when it was a world power.

You are right about Belgian beer being the best. I had a Belgian girlfriend who took me to a monastry near Villers Perwin, a small village in the south of the country, and the monks sold beer that they brewed on the premises. It was the best beer I have ever tasted.

My spiritual home is Germany, which is the country I have most often visited and also lived in. The colossal sweep of 20th century history is indelibly marked with Germany and its position as the powerhouse of Europe. I have often walked the streets of Munich, Nuremberg or Berlin and felt part of the events that unfolded there over centuries but also those that are closer to our times.

As for countries that I would like to visit, Japan stands at the top of the list.

I'd like to visit and meet some friends I've made on the web, and some other places I've seen only in films and/or TV, like:

In England, London, Manchester (have a friend there ;)) and Surrey (yet another friend there)

In Ireland, all of it, but first Dublin and County Clare (I want to see the place where the film "King Arthur" was shot).

In Scotland, all of it, but first Stirling, Falkirk, Bannockburn and Glenfinnan by Loch Shiel. And Loch Ness too.

In the US, New Jersey between Camden and Gloucester, Lake Charles in Louisiana, Tolleson in Arizona (I have friends in all these places ;))

In Greece, Athens and Patras (to meet someone there too ;))

In the Far East, Philippines (friend there ;)) and in China, the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.

Florence is one of the most amazing places i've ever visited. I'd love to see it again. :)

In Ireland, all of it, but first Dublin and County Clare (I want to see the place where the film "King Arthur" was shot).

Then you'd need to go to Co. Wicklow. They also filmed Braveheart and Excalibur there... amongst other movies.

No one wants to come to Wales? No one yearns to gaze at the heron-priested rivers? We've got shorelines and beaches to rival Cornwall, castles galore, mountains, rivers, bookshops (though perhaps not round here....) pubs with good Real Ale (so I'm told), delicious local food. OK, so it rains now and then, but I really can't understand why no one is longing to come here....;)

Yes I think it does match my taste in literature, very perceptive indeed. I am glad that I am not over-romancing Italy as it seems to be a particular favourite of a lot of people. It seems also that you have been to most on my wish list, you're very lucky - but good on you. I would also like Germany I think, that would be not much further down my list. I'm glad also that the images of Spain are polar opposites of the dreaded Costas, I have been inland to smaller places but that was a while ago.

Belgium is the beer capital of the world for sure. Some of the best beers there never leave the country. It is not just a question of the beer though, but the whole approach to it that is different (I have read a lot on it). With each beer demanding its own unique glass and the whole ceremony of the experience. With it comes the general attitude of people that can respect beers of that strength, (as with Wine in Italy, France) free from the yobs. Really that is a massive advantage on continental life: getting away from the louts and morons of this country...

Ireland is a place that I also love and would go back to, but I have been there a few times so others would be a greater priority. This time next year, or the year after, I should have a more money coming in so the bags will be packed!

A warm welcome guaranteed :thumbs_up (as long as your not English :p).

For me, here's my top three.

1. (by a mile) is Ellesmere Island (Canada) in the spring. I would love to see the winter migrants come by the thousands via air and sea to the arctic waters. . . .the endless sun. . . .

2. Kamchatka peninsula (Russia) -- the free rivers there, undamed and undamned, are some of the few northern rivers left that offer anadromous fish free passage coming and going in their life cycle.

3. San Diego, USA for the Comic Con -- I'm a comics geek; this is the Mecca for us types. I must go thither and give praise for all comics have given us.

Prague is lovley, lousy with tourists but beautiful and well worth it espeically if you get there the first week of the mnth when most of the musuems and such are free. or in June or is it July on muesum night. all the mueums are oepne for free entry all night, its fun!
( but if you go for that option don do what I did which was stay awake by inducing a sugar high then ouncing around my room and blogging odd things till morning! The jeweish muesums are the most expensive sally and the most worth hile to get in IMO!

I had spent some time in Europe, but unfortunately did not get to England or to the home of my maternal heritage, what is now the Czech Republic; Praha, Brno, etc.

Beyond that, It would be nice to see parts of Russia; Saint Petersburg, Moscow, the Urals or Caucasus mountains.
