Adam's Nightmare
by mazHur

This is not the same earth
I came to from Heaven;
It's an ocean of bewildered men
A sea of befuddled women.

So many offspring will I have
didn't occur to me before,
the fuller sight of diverse faces
tends to make my heart sore.

Away from Nature it all seems,
Life on Earth seems handicapped,
Food and drink and gait and garb
by the snare of Science entrapped.

Oh, my children! What have you done,
miserable you have turned my place!
My camels and donkeys and sheep are gone,
your noisy vehicles lack solace.

You have routed my little cottage,
the cozy shelter Eve took pride in;
I hate the sight of your ugly shoe-boxes
and the concrete high-rises so mean.

Chemicals flowing in every vein,
refuse scattered here and there;
Mother Nature half-choked to death,
politics and terror reigning everywhere.

Oh, no, this is certainly not my Earth!
This isn't the place where my first foot fell;
The Earth which the gracious God had built for me
You fella's have simply turned into Hell!

The whole of this is moving and makes important points. I was especially struck by:

So many offspring will I have
didn't occur to me before,
the fuller sight of diverse faces
tends to make my heart sore.

and

Oh, no, this is certainly not my Earth!
This isn't the place where my first foot fell;
The Earth which the gracious God had built for me
You fella's have simply turned into Hell!

Wonderful meaningful poem; I feel the same way. The last line is very effective, Maz. Interesting how you capitalized some first words in line and not others; was that intentional? The poem has a nice feeling of continuity and flow which seems natural to you and your way of writing. I like this poem very much. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Keep writing!
