If I were to write a stageplay about real writers...well, is it even worth attempting?

Have you read the Dante Club by Matthew Pearl? The main characters are Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, James Russell Lowell and publisher J. T. Fields.

If you have an idea, explore it and see where it takes you.

It is my understanding that as long as the character is no longer living there is no case that can be brought.
