i saw him today
the first time i was ever alone with him
it went surprisingly well
after a couple of drinks
we drove by our old house
and knocked on our
old neighbour's door
but no one was home
except for their dogs
he told me stories of his younger days
in manitoba
he talked of my uncle
and his drinking buddies
he talked of calgary
and his ex-wife, deb
he talked of people he had witnessed die
he talked a lot about his potential new job
and we drove by the half-way house he used to live in
he is drinking again
we got along just fine
for a father and daughter who
do not know each other
