Thoughts On a Rough Morning

I thought about death again today,
The peace that the slumber would bring—
It seems that my life is just wasting away,
A cold flower leftover from Spring…
The night has no ending, no break of day—
Just darkness and shadows that roam
All around me like wraiths come to stay
And make of my life their new home…
Then I thought about life, about promises made—
Hold her hand through the good and the bad
The children now grown, some gone and some stayed
But somehow still trusting in Dad
So I’ll toss away doubt and the gloom of the grave—
Face up to my problems and try to be brave…

A bold and welcome proclamation and I particularly appreciated the spontaneous-seeming or at least non-obtrusive rhyming.

Pendragon, this is really touching. Thank you for sharing. And, please, continue being brave.

Great rhymes, btw! Am very impressed.

Well and bravely spoken. Underlying the words the thought runs true...there will be joy in the morning...

Thanks to you, Prince, Amuse, Qimi. Trying to hold on is seemingly what I do best... Try, or is it, there is no try...

Pen, very well written. A truly courageous and selfless statement.

It appears you do hold on, rather than merely try. Your poetry is your will. Never stop writing.

That ease in rhyme and smoothness in language come because you feel. And as long as you feel them, your poems will always have this generosity.
Very well done.

The elegant despairing nature of this poem almost salvages a ray of light with the last lines. thank you for sharing, keep your chin up, and keep writing to ease the worries.
