Okay, today I was reading some of the early American Literature's poems. They were sure beautiful, but my question is, what is the general process of teaching literature in a high school/college? Do they teach only poems, or with novels as well?

Please reply

They usually cover novels, poems, essays, films and music, plus some philosophy (at least, my wickedly awesome teacher did).

" In California we teach novels, poetry, short stories, essays, whatever else there is. There's usually a textbook full of stuff appropriate to that grade. The book is always a bit longer than the year, so you don't teach it all, you get to pick and choose a bit. Of course you end up picking your favorite stuff. The state usually has standards for each grade.
