Hey guys,

I am teaching beginners in an institution and I am planning on changing the course from Grammar to Reading and I would like really, really, really, short and very, very simple short stories. Any suggestion?

I mean they can read, but they can't comprehend too much. I need at least 2 pages story that I can actually summarize or delete some paragraphs and sentences to make it shorter.

Regards,
Amylian

Assuming that these are ESOL learners, I think you might find this website useful:

Good luck! :)

Wow, this is quite the website I've been looking all over for...

I really appreciate it, and now I can give those ungrateful students something to read...

One of the things we used to do for Adult learners was to re-write stories from newspapers in Basic English. The learners gained confidence to tackle the stories because they already knew the gist of the story having seen them on tv news bulletins or heard them on the radio. It's time-consuming and actually quite difficult to write in Basic English at first but the learner's pleasure at his/her success in reading the story made it worthwhile. They often went on to tackle 'real' newspapers for themselves quite quickly. (I won't go into the literary value, or even the news value, of tabloids at this point!)
