Screeching tires, Bursting glass. I clearly remembered everything. It was the month of all months. The month that i've been waiting for. Suddenly, i heard sirens wailing, people talking, raindrops falling."Eddy!" I heard someone screamed my name. "Eddy!" a girl’s voice calling me. Then, while I'm lying on the ground and my eyesight slowly fades in black. I saw her face reaching out. But, it's too late. I already closed my eyes. I don’t even remember her name. I don’t even remember the day. Somehow, I remember her face, her voice, my feelings for her. But, the important details like her name, day. I can't remember them.
Darkness devours the scene from my eyes. The silence is so deafening. It stopped right there.
Then something popped into my mind. That very day before the accident, she promised to wait for me at the church. That's the day when my courage to propose to her never came true...
Now, it's been 8 years since I died. I've been waiting here in front of the church. I wanted to see her, even for just a nick of time. I still wanted to remember her name. I wonder how she looked like. "Eddy! Waiting for your girl again?" said another lost soul Jasper. Jasper was a biker who died in a Hit and Run Accident. Like Eddy, Jasper can't go in peace if he can't have justice.
Jasper and Eddy often have conversations about their past lives. They usually laugh about horrible things that happened. But, they never brought up the time when they died. "Quickly! Quickly! Arrange the decorations!" a man shouted behind the two souls who were sitting in front of the church. "They’ll be coming any minute now!" the man shouted again. Eddy realized that it's a wedding and he felt the guilt that if he didn't crossed the road quickly he would’ve never died and would've been married to his girlfriend. The two watched the people decorating the church. "They're lucky, they fulfilled their dreams." said Eddy with a weak voice. "Maybe we should get going now; it will be bad for you." said jasper. “No, I want to finish this wedding." Eddy answered firmly. The worried jasper can't complain so he thought of just letting it go.
"Do you believe in faith?" Eddy asked suddenly. "Hmm?.. Yeah of course, because faith can save us that is why we're here, someday we will be climbing the stairs to heaven." said the no clue jasper. "Oh, so is that faith? I always have faith when I was still alive, but why is it he never saved me from the accident, it's like that he ruined my life." said the doubting Eddy. "Why do you say that?" replied by the surprised jasper. "Cause if there is god and there is faith why would he let me die with burden in my heart?" the question that was bugging Eddy when he died was laid out. The melancholic atmosphere covered their conversation. Jasper looked at Eddy and never thought that his friend was bothered by this kind of stuff. Jasper knows that keeping quiet would be good for now.
The two stood up as the church bell rang for the wedding that is about to start. "Let's go I want to see happy faces for now." Eddy said to Jasper who was worried for him. the two stood at the church doors and laughed about how the bride would look like. These are the moments that they can laugh about. Because telling story about their past lives might be too painful for them. They looked around and see some of the people they knew. "****! That’s my girl next door, something happened between us.” said Jasper. The number of people are increasing through time to time. "The bride is here!" said one of the guests. All the people gathered inside and closed the church doors. the two souls stayed outside to look at how the bride would look like. The two still laughed about their previous conversation about the bride. Then, a man opened the car and the bride came out. Suddenly Eddy's laughter was stopped along with his heartbeat. The bride looked at the church doors where the two souls were standing. The bride slowly approaches the door with her father. Jasper was stunned how beautiful the bride is and tried asking Eddy what he thinks. "Eddy what do..." he paused when saw Eddy with tears flowing from his eyes through his cheeks. Jasper knew that time that the bride was the girl Eddy once loved. Eddy slowly whispered her name in the air where no living soul could hear, even jasper. The bride was standing in front of Eddy. He can't be seen. "Please, call my name for the last time." Eddy whispered to the bride's ears. He can't be heard. He touched her cheeks while she smiled in front of Eddy's sad face. She never felt his hands. "Please, say my name just for now." Eddy whispered while his tears flowed with undeniable pain. The Church Doors opened and people clapped their hands. The sound of the wedding anthem covered the whole place. Cheering was heard. But, Eddy's weeping voice can't reach the one he loves. The bride walked pass through him. Jasper seeing Eddy like this was shocked along with the feeling of sympathy. Eddy gave up trying to reach her out but can't stop his tears from falling. "It's hard to be like this, she can't see me, but I see her approaching a man that will take her forever." Eddy said with pain piercing through his heart. He cried like a child that was left behind by his parents living an unbearable pain to deal with. "Farewell Eddy" The bride whispered her last words for Eddy while slowly approaching the man that's going to take her away from Eddy forever. Eddy heard her parting words. The last words that he was longing to hear to make his soul be in peace. He turned around to look at her one last time. There he told Jasper " She never heard me,But,I'm glad she still cared for me.I have my faith back, the faith i've been holding for years." his tears flowed and accept the fact that it's time to let go and rest his bothered soul.
...
The church bells rang while the bride and the groom kissed; the doves flew to the sky with tiny bits of light. These tiny bits of light were Eddy's soul climbing the stairs of heaven.
Jasper stood at the church doors looking up to the sky where Eddy is at. Jasper knew that life is not to be thrown away easily. The two of them knew how life can sometimes be cruel. But, learning to live life is what makes it more interesting. Think about it, it’s more beautiful to be seen, heard and touched than not to be.
