I like to read a lot even though I'm terrible at recognizing deeper meanings or symbolism or metaphor etc. haha.

My tastes are 'somewhat' varied. I like beat generation writers. I'm quite fond of William Burroughs but not always. I also like turn of the century stuff like Joseph Conrad or F Scott Fitzgerald. I also enjoy the Japanese author Kobo Abe. "The women in the dunes" was an awesome book.

More than anything in I book I want a down to earth straight writing style - like Hemingway, but I also want a pervasive mood or atmosphere, something that takes me to another time and place. Not necessarily as in 'being on a pirate ship", more like "being in a dingy coffee shop in the 50s with some bohemian artsy friends", or "being in pre-war New York having a tragic doomed love affair".

I look forward to learning lots from this site, and picking up new choices for books to read.

Cool !
You Canadians are masochists.
Minus 40 & you go ice fishing, followed by a beer where they pull the glass out of the freezer.
Actually the beer was great.
Welcome aboard.
