When I Was An Albatross

I have glided over mountains
effortlessly
looking down upon the span
of the winking sea
an albatross....

sailing through salt-kissed air
regally
for days, years
never touching upon the ground,

swept away upon the
next wake
to be carried
to an unknown plain
where beauty may be found
unlike another touched
or even dreamed.

The birds alone
cut through rainbows--
catching them unaware
before they have a chance
to fade away....

a rainbow arched
above the ocean
where only old souls may see,
those left behind in the
great days of mystery
and discovery,

perhaps the albatross
bore them off
through the mist
that lingers in my eyes.

There was never an age
of contentment, the whispers of
paradise, the nostalgic
golden time--all just
rainbows fading
to live only in memories
and fabled yesterdays...

the human heart never touched it
while the birds still fly,
and the albatross, the majesty
of sea and sky, continues
the quest of eternity.

Dark Muse, you are the true poetic warrior, haha. You have a talent for prolific and well refined writing. I was taken aback by this one, which is very different to some of your others, and it shows you have an elastic talent which can be stretched and which keeps your style fresh.

always a pleasure to read.....

Thank you both.

That is a tricky one, becasue I draw inspiration from many sources, but my own personal beliefs, and my connection to nature often have some hand in much of my work, and I also draw a lot from the past, and the old romantics. Sometimes an idea will just spark in my head seemingly out of nowhere.
