What've you got planned today? There is an epic punk show in my town in the evening, plus i've RSVP'ed to 3 parties my friends are throwing. Needless to say I'll be busy. Happy 4th of July! :)

Certainly this is my favorite secular holiday of the year. Happy Fourth of July to all the Americans around here. It's an absolutely beautiful day in New York City. Should be a fantastic fireworks display this evening.

Happy Independence Day, everyone! Despite the beautiful weather here in Portland, Oregon, too, I have to work tonight. The city has planned its usual festivities, a Jazz/Blues Festival on the Willamette River Waterfront, speeches galore, and fireworks show once the sun sets.

Ah Virgil! I loved the fireworks when I lived in NYC. At the time I was living in an old warehouse right on the Hudson across from the WTC. I couldn't believe the real estate speculators hadn't jumped on the property. We had the most spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue. The building was largely populated with artists and we'd all get together on the roof top and barbecue, drink some beers, and watch the show. An inordinate number (you know those artsy types) were vegetarians which meant all the more for me. I spent the day today getting my studio together, building walls and moving equipment around. Nothing like some heavy construction and carpentry to work up an appetite... and a real thirst. I came home to steaks on the grill (New York Strips... so red they were still mooing) and some really good beer: Samuel Smith Imperial Stout (one of my absolute favorites... incredibly rich and perfect with steak), Beamish Irish Stout, this really unique banana bread beer:banana:, and we'll finish off with some Three Philosophers while listening to Miles Davis (Kind of Blue) and perhaps some Stones (Let it Bleed) if I'm really blitzed.:banana:
