Hello! I'm a new member of the community and I'm more or less just trying to find more friends who like the same types of books I do. And whom can recommend some great ones!

I'm a fantasy die-hard, I know I know, not another one. I love books with elves, orcs, dragons etc. Pretty norm when it comes to the stereotypical fantasy book. The problem I have is finding the right books. I'm a pretty finicky person when it comes to my books. I read them by my mood. If I need a little sunshine in my life I look for a book with a happy ending. If I'm in the mood to think and contemplate for hours on end, I look for a serious/drama book. And for those lonely quiet nights, I look for the more explicit side of fantasy literature. I would think this is fairly norm for most people, but I imagine not many are willing to share it publicly. But this is the internet and I welcome the blessing of anonymousity with open arms.

Oh, and most importantly, I enjoy series the most. I love a great book series where the story just continues or branches throughout the same world.

So, does anyone have any good recommendations for any of my categories?

Most recently read books:

•Dusk - Tim Lebbon (excellent starter to a series, explicit but not sexually, very gorey and shock-written)
•Truth and Steal - Thomas Reid (excellent book, drama/action at its best with a excellent ending)
•The Blood Red Harp - Elain Cunningham (hilarious book with a good ending)

About to start reading:
•Dawn - Tim Lebbon (2nd book in the series)

Please dont be shy! Let me hear your recommendations and thoughts!

-Kaimon

In that case, Kaimon, I'll say 'Welcome to the Forums'. I know next to nothing about Fantasy Literature but you may find people who do know and love it at the Fantasy Forum - click on to it at the top of the general Reading page.

Welcome Kaimon!
Have you tried Terry Brooks?

Hi Kaimon. I used to read a lot of fantasy but not so much any more. My fiance loves it, though, and the last book I bought him was by Steven Erikson. He loved it and read the whole series. Pretty sure from what he said about them they are quite serious.

Thats much better! Theres life in these forums after all! I'm not well versed in authors unfortunately. Over my lifetime, I dont have very many books read, all thanks to the wonderful invention the television. I do, however, love to read regardless of that fact. So needless to say, I do not know of Terry Brooks or Steven Erikson. But, thanks to another new invention, I can look into either of them! Are there particular books you had in mind or anything they have written is generally pretty good.
