I am thinking of spending 4 nights in London in mid July.
After searching online for several hours, it dawned on me that some of you may be able to help me to find a nice location of a hotel. I have no interests in shopping but would like to stroll around town, preferably near museums. We would like relatively quiet and safe location away from shopping areas. Which part of London should I search a hotel?

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

The trouble is, Jinjang, if you live in a city you are unlikely to know anything about its hotels!

It depends which museums you are intending to visit - try for something in South Kensington if you are aiming for the Natural History Museum/Science Museum/Victoria & Albert; Bloomsbury for the British Museum.

Unfortunately July is peak tourist time for London and hotels will be charging full rate, so nothing is likely to be cheap. There are however Youth Hostels even in central London and the chains like Travelodge or Premier Inn charge by the room rather than by the person or you might consider an apartment. Also some of the university halls of residence offer accommodation for visitors, I know my grandson's college does (www.imperial-accommodationlink.com)

Quieter hotels might be found further out of town but bear in mind that the further out you are, the more time you will have to spend travelling to and from the places you want to visit. Try to make sure wherever you choose is near a Tube station or on a bus route with a frequent service if you can. Often centrally located hotels are not as noisy as you might think - I've just spent a couple of nights in a hotel on the Strand but my room was at the side and five floors above the noise of the street and it really wasn't too bad. But it still took me nearly an hour to travel from the Strand to Paddington Station by bus and that was on Sunday evening so goodness knows how long it would have taken during the rush hour.

Enjoy London! I lived there over thirty years ago and now visit but rarely - but it still gives me a buzz!

Thank you very much for taking time to answer my question. It was a rather out of blue decision to go to London and I panicked. You do know where to look for hotels if not hotels themselves. I appreciate your response. I look forward to visiting London!
