We all have vices which are of course hard to break. Which of the following could you not live without?

I will never agree that coffee is a vice!!! never!!! it's a tasty drink that I don't want to be without!!!!
I used to smoke but I don't do that anymore, I do think it's a vice how much I watch tv...

Marijuana, Caffeine, and liquor - coffee to keep me up (though, coffee from any coffee store here unless it is a real one, which are hard to find, generally doesn't faze me - the only drink that actually effects me at all is a double espresso if I have two of them), marijuana to keep me sane, and liquor for all the rest. Though, lately I've been off the marijuana, and more onto the caffeine.

- coffee to wake me up;
- alcohol to knock me out;
- prescription drugs taken with alcohol to REALLY knock me out

Helga- You know the first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem :P
JBI- Before I was pregnant I would have also counted marijuana as a vice. Now it's an occasional treat. I also switched heavily to caffine
Haunted- lol I hear ya!
Niamh- *doh* I totally meant to put chocolate as a choice and I forgot! I don't suppose there's a way for me to edit to add a choice?

Coffee is not a vice, but I checked it. Yes I know it has caffeine, so what? It's not a vice. Oh and I love a glass of wine with dinner. Drinking a glass and remaining sober is not a vice either.

Edit: And if anyone doubts whether they are vices here's the definition of vice:

vice 1 (vs) KEY

NOUN:

An evil, degrading, or immoral practice or habit.
A serious moral failing.
Wicked or evil conduct or habits; corruption.
Sexual immorality, especially prostitution.

A slight personal failing; a foible: the vice of untidiness.
A flaw or imperfection; a defect.
A physical defect or weakness.
An undesirable habit, such as crib-biting, in a domestic animal.

Vice A character representing generalized or particular vice in English morality plays.
A jester or buffoon.

Well yeah..."vice" is a bit of a strong word. But it was the best I could think of to put for the question without getting too wordy or over explanitory
Although I guess "bad habit" might have sufficed :P

But I think ya'll more or less gets the jist of what I mean ;)

coffee is definitely a vice for me. the doctor said I shouldn't have caffeine basically ever (long story, don't want to elaborate on why), but it's so incredibly hard. I don't even drink that much coffee at all, but I love the taste of it so so much. So I try to limit myself to one or two coffee drinks a week, but even that is hard.

And I love soda. But it's so very unhealthy. I think about how much I want soda all the time, but I've really been trying to limit myself.

It's an acquired habit. As I've gotten a little older I've become more conscious of what I eat, though don't get me wrong I still love a good brownie. :D It takes a lot of effort to restrain myself!

I love chocolate. I find my job somewhat stressful (I'm somewhat of an introvert teaching 9th graders which isn't even a step up from middle school-the energy!) so almost every afternoon I eat either a Hershey bar or Peanut M & M's. I just MUST have them and then I feel much better. Chocolate has been linked to serotonin levels in the brain, and it's actually good for lowering one's cholesterol (providing it's dark), so it's not really a vice, imo. Unfortunately, I had to have a root canal as a result.

Well I would say chocolate and sweets are my vice because I have a weakness for them and sometimes (or a lot of the time) tend to overindulge.

I put alcohol as well, though I don't think it is really a vice. Except when I overdo it... which has been known to happen. :)

Chocolate, tea, ice-cream and chips would be mine. However, except tea, I eat the rest in phases....some days I would want to eat only chocolates, or chips and so on.

Tea is a must everyday :D I do not like the vending machine tea; it should only be prepared by me...just as I want :D

Vending machine tea - eughhhh, avoid it at all costs (unless you are gasping) especially if the machine also makes coffee or, worse still, soup, as it will have the strange combined flavour of all of them. The trouble is, the machine does not use boiling water, only nearly boiling, so the tea has a curiously dead flavour as a result; also they often use a sort of powder that seems to be made from stewed (over-brewed) tea which is revolting - cold, stewed tea - I can't think of anything less refreshing and reviving.

Coffee is not a vice, but I checked it.

of course it is. Coffee is suspected by scientists to be a mind-altering drug with long-term effects on your personality. If coffee can really alter your personality, it changes the way God created you and is therefore a sin on the same level as wearing make-up or cloning. It's unnatural. :D:D:D:D:D:D [hehehe, I should pose as a Christian fundamentalist in the religious forum, they'd never guess I'm an atheist]

My sin is coffee. I do smoke way too much, but I can live without cigarettes for up to a year. I could never live without coffee, especially if/when I don't smoke.

Everything in moderation, really. The moment is becomes a vice is when one over indulges and uses something to a degree that it creates dependency. Or so that's my take on it.

Oh, I was just being snarky,. Marijuana is much less serious here than in the U.S.A and other places. At events such as the Marijuana March in Toronto and 4/20 (April 20th) gatherings, weed is openly smoked on the city streets. A lot of people light up on their porches in the evenings, and outdoors in parks, etc. Criminal punishment for possession seems to be MUCH less serious than in other places, if you even get pinned at all.

Where I live it's not that big of a deal either. I guess it's technically legal. State wise...not federally though. However, the DEA announced that they would stop raiding the local dispensaries after that drug cartel thing in Mexico.
We have a marijuana march here too. Surprisingly, not on 420
I think it should be legal, but there are bigger things to fight for first
I've never actually seen anyone punished for having weed. Not by the authorities anyway. Well except one time when my friend's bong was broken by a cop because he had it in the car when he got pulled over (dumb).

It is;) Let's just say I didn't have an entirely misspent youth:D

As for my vices, coffee, tea, chocolate, sweets... I would actually have to say I'm the worst about tea. I collect it in the way that some people collect baseball cards. If I see a new variety, I MUST buy it, and I've about a three foot section in my pantry full of nothing but different teas. The sad bit is that this is after I've been cutting down and not allowing myself to buy much more than the necessities (green tea with jasmine and vanilla red tea) for going on two years. I should likely just cull it all out since so much of it is old.

Ha, I'm so boring. I occasionally drink coffee or tea, maybe once or twice a week. I've never done any drugs, never smoked, and I can count the number of times I've been drunk on one hand.

I love to gamble when I get the opportunity, I have enough sense to avoid the casino though.

JuniperWoolf

Benzo and painkillers have my number. I used to be dependant on Gravol, and if I have one sleeping pill I'm screwed for the week. I was getting pretty close to being a smoker after last weekend, but I fended off the urge to buy a pack.

I indulge in alcohol and "illigal" drugs (like Becca said, we don't really consider marijuana illigal here), but I don't think it's a "vice," since I don't need it.

I'm somewhat boring too. I'm addicted to coffee on and off, I've smoked pot a few times but not often in the past few months, actually not at all. As for my dear muse, wine, whenever I get my hands on them bottles I drink in moderation and usually fall asleep if I get drunk

I checked off sweets along with coffee, but I'm sure that I can find a way to live without any of that stuff. If there is something I cannot live without, it is precription drugs. If I go a day without my anti-depressants I start getting quasi-suicidal.

DB, I meant the smoking pot. Then again, neither is drinking. Not at our age.

Water is a good thing to be addicted to. I've never heard of anyone die of a water OD.

Great, Pip, six long months must have done something. Whereabouts I'm at, nobody close to me has ever killed themself. That's lucky.

Katy North

Actually, I have heard of someone dying of water OD. Some radio show had a contest where someone had to drink as much water as possible in one sitting, and someone drank a gallon (or was it two?) in less than two hours and died. Not common, but possible .

My biggest vice is caffeine. I honestly think I'm as addicted to it as some people are to smoking. I got addicted when I first started college about 7-8 years ago and a few months ago I was drinking something like four cans of soda a day to function... now I'm cutting back to one or two cups and have switched to diet, but I still need my caffeine or it's hard to stay alert.

Unfortunately for me i have an incredibly addictive/obsessive personality.

for me its pretty much anything I get my hands on. alcohol, drugs, women, hobbies, information.

pretty much anything my mind is interested in, it will latch onto and compell me to further myself in it, bad or good, until its either burnt out on it, or it destroys me.

currently my biggest vice is relationships, im a serial monogomist, and its causing problems because im not always of the greatest mindset, have alot of personal issues which impact on my interactions greatly.

its something im trying to overcome tho, getting there.

Okay, so I have more than one vice on here so i haven't voted yet.

I like coffee.. Lots of coffee in the morning.

There wasn't a choice for excessive internet use was there? I skimmed over it and didn't see it. But I am on the internet way too much. I think it all started with this forum. then I got on myspace. Then facebook. And on facebook I discovered apps. And got hooked on apps for a while. Then I got annoyed with the fact that I had to have my real name on my facebook account and all these people from high school and even elementary school added me as friends and that was weird. And then there was the fact that my coworkers were on my page so I deleted everybody pretty much so I quit with the facebook. But I got a myspace page for apps because you can have a fake-ish profile on myspace. Well, you can with facebook too, but I ended up on myspace (long story) but it all has to do with a game I can't stop playing on there. It's ridiculous. And it makes me so mad and these people on there are crazy and they write the way they talk (I imagine). One day I logged on and there was a conversation going on about child support and the last thing I read was "men be devious with they child support." There are no typos in that sentence. Not their child support, but they child support. They replaces their in that sentence. Okay so that was totally off topic, but the point is, I am addicted to a stupid internet application. And no one listens to cool music and every once in a while there is a dispute about someone calling someone else a racist and there are these flame wars. I was actually called a "hoe" on that game...for playing the game. And I still log on and play. It's sad. I need help. At least I've never been called a hoe on lit net.

At one time I thought maybe I had a problem with too much beer in conjunction with my internet posting but well, that's alright now.

I've come to believe that posting can be a vice, especially when I type what I later regret for some reason. Mayhap I should take some time away from the computer. Mayhap I should take an eternity away from it.

Can we add indecision to that poll? I'm writing a practice college entry essay for my English 12 AP class and can't decide on which of the five different directions I want to highlight.
