Without going to deep into my topic, I'm writing a paper about the dichotomy of Wall Street; how on one hand it represents American wealth, capitalism, financial and economic power. Conversely, it also symbolizes, especially for the Romantic writers, the degradation of the human spirit by rise of the working class. I'm definitely going to be looking at Melville's "Bartelby the Scrivener" but if anyone has any other suggestions, that would be great.
