So Scher, what's your number?

39?

Taliesin
05-07-2005, 04:53 AM
Well, this is relative too.
We mean, one could take the year of some other planet, which's year equals to, say, 5 Earth's years.
Which means that one could say that his or her age is between 35 and 39 years, but which would actually mean like 175 to 195 Earth years.

We are sixteen, if anyone is interested.

Miss Darcy
05-07-2005, 05:16 AM
Very true, Taliesin...:D

In Earth years...I'm fifteen.

Oops! I should probably vote in the poll!

There's no shame in being young...I'm 16. "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young". A paraphrase, I think it's from the Christian Bible.

Jay
05-07-2005, 09:43 AM
There's nothing wrong with being both actually, be it young or old :)

*edit* Actually, Scher's something around 172 (Earth years ;)), Tal was close

Koa

can't I vote twice? one for my biological age (23), one for my mental age (87)?

I sort of feel like I'm becoming younger, meaning that I do sillier things than I used to when I was a teenager but feeling ancient...Now I'm over 20 and acting stupid. But I feel so old anyway.

I agree, I'm 19 but my mental age is around 85-90, I have been told since I was a kid that I act and talk like the other kids grandma and I have always felt a lot older than people my age. :)

Koa

I've never been that wise, but you often seem to be an older version of me (older as in me some years ago). When I was 16 I suddenly started feeling like 80, so now I count my age starting from there...

Not really...maybe partly... It's about how you feel...You know, all those people that are, say, 40 and feel like 20...well, this is just the opposite case. You see other people - younger, or your age, or slightly older - and feel immensely older, but older in a bad way, not the wise/mature way... older like your life is almost over and you didnt have time to be like them and won't have time anymore.

It is a mistake to live one's life according to some arbitrary dictum of a calender. Age is something to keep track of only because others seek of it of you. It bears little on the reality of one's impact on the world, or the world's impact on you, other than when we are a young child. Cumulative knowledge can sometimes be used to judge a person's age, but even this method not always accurate (I've met very young people with very old eyes) nor beneficial in any meaningful way. I am at a loss as to why people feel strange revealing their age, whether it be young or old..........but I assume it is conditioned response. It is much better to be 'yourself' with abandon.....there is nothing to fear..........

I think we should punish those people who invented "time" as the ones who divided time to years, months, days, hours, minutes, seconds. Before this time measure was "invented", people never worried about when is the right time to use anti wrinkle cream..

Well, Sub, seeing as polls could have a limited number of options (I thought it was 10, seems possible to create a 12-choice one as well), creating a poll ranging from 13 to let's say 70... I doubt it's possible... and really, that's a bit childish and uncalled for. I think it's the most accurate age poll we've had as far.

Scher, you haven't answer my Q

Scheherazade

I need the exact answer, then I'll answer your poll...

Subterranean,

To begin with, it is not 'my poll'. It is another opportunity for us to get to know each other better. All Forum members have been responding to it and the fact that I started the thread does not make it mine.

Secondly, I cannot imagine why you would 'need' to know my exact age. I responded on the first day. My close friends here already know the 'exact' answer to that question and I am sure my other Forum friends are satisfied with my response to the Poll as it clearly states which age group I belong to.

Lastly and most importantly, it is unfair to those of us who have been sincere in the Poll that you should give misguiding information on purpose. I will, therefore, cancel your vote.

We all have been joking about our ages in the thread but still have been honest in the Poll. You do not have to take part in this survey; I am sure no one will insist that you should.

I hope this brings this issue to a close and we can now move on.

How do you know that I'm not 72 old anyway? Have I told you my real age? How do you know whether I put my real birth year in my profile??

It's UNFAIR to pressume that I lied and make jokes with the poll...

i don't wanna be like people my age! most of them are lazy, unimaginative, immature and don't enjoy their lives even though they party all the time and are soooo cool.
my greatgrandmother (who reached the age of 97) said you have to become old first before you can become young again.. or something... so maybe some people really age the other way round... it's not too bad, really.. coz if you're old and do silly things people will think how cool it is that you can still enjoy life at your age but when young people do silly things it's 'antisocial' or immature...

Oh dear....Im sitting here on the Group "W" bench, feeling quite old -34.

However, when I was 28 turning 29, I sat around lamenting my lost years,
moaning about my age...then someone pointed out to me that, I was not
turning 29 that day, but instead 28, using the highly technical adding
machine (fingers) proved it....yeah, I spent my entire 27th year thinking
I was 28, so I got to be 28 a second time.

But then this year, (and last) I managed to mess it up again. This time
I tought I was 32 going on 33, ...I went in the wrong direction....I'm 34.

Would it make you feel better if I told you I was 38 who feels like they're still 18? That is because age is how you feel and if you body doesn't feel the age on your birth certificate then just say how you feel. Although if you feel 80 which sometimes I do then go out a find a good laugh to lightened your spirits. Nothing wrong with counting backwards it keeps you young at heart. :)

I totally agree with you both... feeling young at heart is what matters. I think that no one ever grows old in their hearts it's only their looks that bother them...

Hey, new here! I was actually worried I was going to be the oldest person here, but I see there's quite a few people here in their 30s. ;)

eheh Jakobin... I've been guessed to be 15 when I was 21... :eek2: ...I didnt find it too flattering.
And keep enjoying... it's not worth aging after the age of 19 so enjoy your last years when it's worth growing up...:D

I'm 25, but people always think I look younger too. When I tell them that I want to teach 12th grade (people around 17 -18 years old), their eyes get bigger. :eek2:

I'm (physically) 13, people think I'm 16 when they see me, then they think I'm 5 when they talk to me, then they think I'm 64 when they read my writing... It's all very confusing...

 Virgil...I looked at this thread cos I saw you posted and I was like 'hey let's see how young this new guy Virgil is'... cos it's usually teenagers or people in their early 20s, it seems to me... great to have one more 'grown-up' one, which in other words can be said as glad there are people who are older than me ;););)

Thanks. The demographics show that most of the people who voted are fairly young. I've never participated in one of these forums or chat things before. I find this is fun. I love literature (and other arts as well), so I guess the attraction is that I get to chit chat with people who share one of my personal interest. I've been out of school a long time, so I haven't indulged in this pleasure frequently. I'll have to remember that Koa is one of the "grown-ups."

Well i wanted to share with you some of my thoughts about the "age matter"..
I was born in 1983 which makes me 22 years old.
But i like to look at the matter from a diffrent angle.
If you think about it all that really makes all of us the same is one thing..
Death.. yep one day we'll all die.. that's a fact...
So what my age is really suppose to be is the day i'll die minus the years past..
What i mean is that i should not count upword.. but rather down..
For example i'll die let's say at the age of 80 years.. so today i'm 80 years minus 22 which means i'm 58 years old, and next year i'll not be 23 but rather 57...
well those are just my thoughts about this "age matter"..
Sorry if they're a bit pessimistic.

It actually makes sense... though it's a bit hard to calculate unless you know the exact date of your death, which you don't really know...

Nighty, when I was younger I had decided I didn't want to live more than...what was it, 45 I think... Well now I'm 23 and I feel I have barely started to really live, and I'm still missing many experiences so I've already raised my limit to 50...or 55... or... ;) (lol I'm getting old aren't I :D)

I'll have to remember that Koa is one of the "grown-ups."

Uh? Was it a joke? Noone calls me grown-up, I dont want to grow up :( *calls her friend Peter (Pan)* :D

Not that freaky, really. A smidgen odd (considering the age of Papa Noel), perhaps, but certainly not freaky. All interesting answers, but I think that I will wait for more guesses (say, maybe when there are ten in all?) before telling you all if you're getting hotter or colder...;)
