Our World in Ruins

Two naked bodies
and two naked souls
stand opposed
among the ruins
of a world fallen
in broken pieces

Left stripped bare
where everything
crumbles into dust
is there room yet for love
when two soldiers
separated only by the
color of their uniforms
remain now undistinguished

For beneath
to the flesh and bone
they are just the same
bodies seeking warmth
souls reaching out for a spark
of connection to be made

When blood and war
no longer mean a thing
with no victory
but a chance
for man to stand bare
wearing no badge
no religion
no nation
just a living organism
pure in the truest form

Perhaps if we destroy
ourselves in our efforts
to force ideologies on each other
using the Houses of God
to try and impose laws
in religious tyranny
of right and wrong

There will be left
two naked bodies
and two naked souls
just trying to connect
among the ruins of this world

Dark Muse, Loved your poem, esp. the 3rd stanza.

For beneath
to the flesh and bone
they are the same
bodies seeking warmth
souls reaching out for a
spark of connection to be made.

Wow, every hate-monger should read this!! And isn't that so true...in this life, don't we all just want to make a connection to someone or something?
