If anybody is interested in the Pre-Raphaelites the BBC begins a short three part series tonight. Just thought I would mention it. :)

The Pre-Raphaelites Tuesday 16 June :thumbs_up
8:30pm - 9:00pm
BBC4
1/3 - Victorian Revolutionaries
A three-part study of the 19th-century art movement opens in accessible, fast-moving fashion. Formed in 1848, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood broke with convention and confronted social issues in crisp detail. But in picking out veins and sweat on their subjects they caused outrage (criticisms of the time are read in antsy Points of View voices). Realism wasn't just in the detail but also in the postures: women crowded round pictures like Millais' Mariana because they empathised with its heroine. Bite-sized but satisfying.

I've just parked myself in front of the tv Michael, ready and waiting. I have a tendency to doze off or forget if there's something I want to watch, so I am waiting with baited breath! I love 'em. I believe that there's a BBC drama coming up about them soon, so this will be an appetizer for that.

I tried to watch it but the Tv screen is completely screwed up. I have had this problem with BBC4 ever since I got the channel its really frustrating. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, Fen - it turned out that my Freeview Digibox was not robust enough to receive the signal. I've upgraded the box and the reception is OK now. And *!*! - I forgot the Pre-Raphaelite programme was on! But BBC4 often repeats itself, so maybe I can catch it some other time - hope so!

Thanks Kasie I didn't realise that the digital box could be upgraded I thought all the digital stuff would be the same. There is a repeat tomorrow at 8pm

You may be able to watch it on your TV with BBC i-player, or catch it on the BBC web site. :)

Thanks, Fen and Michael T - the recorder is set for tonight's showing - in case I forget again!

Fen: my old digibox was old, I'd had it for eight years or more; the technology is being developed all the time, apparently, and the signals are much stronger now that more transmitters are coming into use, so my little old box was struggling and probably wearing out. When I say 'upgraded', I mean I have bought a new, up-to-date version, one that pauses and records, and sings-and-dances - and it didn't cost too much (from that store that reckons they ARE electricals!). I'm still enjoying playing with it - and have about a dozen programmes to watch after my week-end away!

My digital Tv (rather then box) is only couple of years old and already way behind new technology. All this pausing live tv it's like sci-fi I could never imagined it would happen so quickly. Thanks for explaining about the signals Kasie

You're welcome, Fen - that's the reason I have a box rather than a digital-ready set. My technolgically savvy son-in-law pointed out I have a perfectly good analogue set and by the time it needs replacing, technology will have bounded on and there will be even more bells-and-whistles available, so I may as well wait to be even more up-to-date.

Programme is safely recorded - now all I need is half an hour to watch it!

There was a BBC drama about them in the Seventies, I remember. Patricia Quinn who played Magenta in The Rocky Horror Picture Show played Lizzie Siddal. See - I remember that, but I don't know who played Holman Hunt or Rossetti or Ruskin or Morris. From which selective focus I think one could work out that I was a teenage boy at the time, and in those days the BBC tried to get as many bare breasts as possible into all the dramas they produced. The Six Wives of Henry VIII, for instance, was compelling viewing.

Ah, here (http://www.tv.com/the-love-school/the-brotherhood/episode/284101/summary.html)it is.... The Love School.

I turned on the TV last night to watch the next program but for some reason it was a repeat of the night before. Confused now!

BBC4 does that, MichaelT - it's meant to confuse you. That's why I was fairly confident I could catch it sometime later in the week. Part 2 will be next Tuesday - I think....
