For an essay I've to write I need some help. I'm looking for swapped-as-child-themes in classic literature, best before 1820. I only know references in Comedy of Errors, and in Henry IV, but I'm sure there must be more. Help's really appreciated...

does it have to be an even, kid-for-kid, swap?

Yes, a kid-for-kid swap. No kid-to-mandrake or something like that. :)

I thought I remembered Mark Twain had done something like that, so I checked and found Pudd'nhead Wilson. I never read it myself, but it has a slave woman switching her kid for the white family's newborn son. 1894 publication date, however.

Thematically it would fit, but Twain is too late.

Thanks for helping, folks.
I took the novel "Joseph Andrews" by Fielding then.
