Hello, xstarlessXnight, welcome to the forum. :)
Hopefully, you at least read William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet; it reads, in my opinion, somewhat easier than some of his other plays, especially the historical ones.
Romeo and Juliet, I think, both committed suicide for many, many contributing factors. That each killed themself individually seemed very important; after Juliet took the death-mimicking potion, feigning death, Romeo mistook her as dead at her grave, and took his own life then; following that, Juliet woke from her trance, saw Romeo dead, and took her own life in return. Therefore, in one perspective, both committed suicide initially out of a mistake.
Additionally, in short, they loved each other deeply, which any reader could observe without hesitation. That their families, the Montagues and Capulets, continued in a life-long brawl hindered them from fully expressing their love, for example when marrying in secret. In essence, a great factor that contributed to their double suicide seemed that nearly the entire world, not including some of Romeo's close family members and Juliet's nurse, rejected their love for seemingly petty reasons - a family feud; one may even go far enough to proclaim that their trascendental love proved too pure for the infliction from their corrupting surroundings.
This seems all that comes to my mind, initially, but I hope I have helped thus far, and will write again. Good luck!

I agree with mono, there are many reasons why they killed themselves. I think it is pretty clear when you have read the whole play. Love that is so deep that they can't imagine life without eachother, in many ways saying that having to live alone would be death, or doom. They were mad at their families for forcing them to hide their love, a love so pure it lived after their death. The 'happy ending' is that the families forgot their feu and forgave eachother, showing how the human nature needs dramatic and terrybul things to happen to see the 'light'. Read what they said before they died that should give you few ideas too.

Thanks!
Yeah, I did read the play, I was even in it, I just didn't understand all the reasons that they killed themselves, I thought it was just because they had a forbidden love...

THANKS AGAIN!!!! :D

Am I late? anyway... I think hard rules of society of middle centuries played mainly role in their death. it's main reason. They were victim of their time. why are Romeos and Juliets absent nowadays? - There's nothing which can prevent couples to live their life by their way at present time - Much freedom - thanks GOD!

I don't know if this is any help or if it's too late or if anyone has already said this:
They wanted their love to live on, and death was the only way to make it possible, it's a religious play, so they believed that by dying, they would be together for eternity!
