Or if he is, he never shows it and this is what I resent so much about him - the obsessive jiggling back and forth, the fixed, monomaniacal smile - I want to know what's behind this goonish, hedonistic persona. Dancing Nana is simplicity itself. He has the joie de vive that someone like me completely lacks, yet I am so simple-minded and easily amused that I can be mesmerized by his little happy jig for hours on end. Just as covering a canary's cage will put the bird instantly to sleep, so I am tranquilized by the steady rhythm of Dancing Nana's pas de une (and occassionally deux, troix, etc.).
