“Ruach elohim” is mentioned in Genesis:

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Other translations of “ruach Elohim” are the wind, breath or mind of God.

Conversation is more than blood to me.
It is more like the ruach Elohim
that animates my soul.

Every one of another’s breath
confirms the reality
of this life to me

which otherwise at times
seems like a splendid dish
with one of the essential ingredients
left out.

Oooh, I really love this one with the equation of conversation and relationships with others being the "God's breath" of life. The last stanza is an interesting counterpoint to the first two; implying something missing opposed to what fills life in the previous two. I've always loved themes of how we gain meaning in life and define ourselves through others, so it immediately connected with me on that level.

Wow, what a lovely response. I feel you shared as much of your self as I hoped to do of mine. Thank you.

Oh, the tears in my eyes. This is so powerful. It says so much to me. May I offer this...for its beautiful music and pictures. I beg you, please, do not be offended by the New Testament scriptures.

Are you referring to the same New Testament scriptures that contain the following:

1 Corinthians 1:
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is Patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

If so, why would I be offended?

What a splendid way of depicting conversation. Reminds me of some of Rilke's observances.

This goes on my list of favorites of yours, Prince.

I thank you for your translation of the title -- what a beautiful thought woven into your short but powerful little poem. The second verse was outstanding, loved it!
