Sonnet #23
XXIII.br /br /As an unperfect actor on the stagebr /Who with his fear is put besides his part,br /Or some fierce thing replete with too much rage,br /Whose strength's abundance weakens his own heart.br /So I, for fear of trust, forget to saybr /The perfect ceremony of love's rite,br /And in mine own love's strength seem to decay,br /O'ercharged with burden of mine own love's might.br /O, let my books be then the eloquencebr /And dumb presagers of my speaking breast,br /Who plead for love and look for recompensebr /More than that tongue that more hath more express'd.br /O, learn to read what silent love hath writ:br /To hear with eyes belongs to love's fine wit.
