what unspoken words
can we mine from within
Dig deep and discover
the voided spaces

will they ever speak out under our scrutiny?

Or recoil in the dirt
like earthy worms
Poke them
Prod them
They may taste sweeter
than they look

Indeed, they may taste sweeter or, don't we all fear, they might be vile?

Interesting poem, provocative!

that is the dilemma, certainly.

What is my true essence after all?
or do I dwell within a construct which suits me
and tend to the weeds which spring up?

I guess one could take that hypothesis to any number of levels, e.g, you do dwell within a construct of the you who is herself a construct...

Or perhaps I've gone batty reading American Pastoral, by Philip Roth, in which his fictitious alter-ego, Nathan Zuckerman, imagines the life of his childhood idol, "Swede," after the latter has died... So the entire story that I and other readers are exposed to is taking place in the vivid imagination of a character created by Roth!
