Anime North is... well... right now/this whole weekend.
I'm not going.
Too expensive.
And too many fan-girls.
Who like to stroke my boyfriend.
In inappropriate places.
In public.
Because he's a pretty boy.

</endrant>

So... I'll re-watch some Cowboy Bebop and Afro-Samurai xD.

So that's why Sche's changed her avatar into that bookworm girl from R.O.D. OAV. (I forgot her name but I remember she can control papers and use them as weapons.)

Nice choice, Sche! :)

I just finished watching Trinity Blood. I'm so disappointed with the story though I'm pretty impressed with the graphics. A lot of things aren't fully explained. I have to read the manga to know more about the Crusniks.

Currently watching Blood +, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Gundam X After War and Yaiba.

Heh, got mine - now you all know I'm so 90s - oh well - what do you expect from a kid with an older sister. Though, it will be interesting to find out if anyone can trace where the image came from. I'm sure enough of you will get it.

You caught me, though I don't know what a Goku is. It's that Tuxedo Mask guy who throws the rose thing, and calls the girl "meatball head".

I remember watching that as a 7 year old, every sunday morning in Indonesia, and thinking..."there's something I'm not getting here..."

Son Goku is from Dragonball, it always came on after Sailormoon. He is a funny little guy, with immense fighting powers, who says things like Ka-me-ha-me-ha *throw fireball*

Nor do I (like it) but there's THIS ONE from youth days, that gives me good memories :thumbs_up

As a matter of fact, I don't like ANY other anime ...

But I really liked this one. There's something funny about anime: they explore feelings, more than Western animated "comics". (And dramaticity, and tragedy ...)

I went through this thread and the only thing that looked or sounded familiar was Goku, even though my son used to watch quite a bit.

Anyway I thought I'd post here since I've got an anime avatar. Can anyone guess where it's from? (I think it's from way back). :)

Your avatar's vaguely familiar. But I think it's from "Witch Hunter Robin". Am I right?

I easily recognized it as Tuxedo Mask (aka Chiba Mamoru). Not really a fan of Sailormoon (though I love the moon) but I did watch it coz it was one of the few anime series being shown on TV during the 90's. :D

Anime differs from cartoons in that it can be just about anything. While cartoons are meant for kids, anime isn't as you can find lots of genres (fantasy, supernatural, horror, action, adventure, slice of life, romance, paranormal, mecha (about robots), drama, etc.) even pornography (more commonly referred to as "hentai").

It gained wordwide fame when 'Astroboy" was created. (Anime was featured once in the newspaper here in my country and I remember an article saying Ozamu Tezuka started the big eyes thing which became the signature eyes in any anime you may encounter.)

Hey, I didn't know you were into anime, too. What genre do you like?

I'm more into shounen (for boys) than shoujo (for girls) coz the latter's full of cheesy stuff and I absolutely hate the magical shoujo kind (like Tokyo Mewmew, Wedding Peach and the famous Sailormoon. UGH!)

er .. sorry to disappoint you, Moonshine :( I'm not in anime, actually. Only, I'm not out of it either  I watched that mysterious one (you will find out, along the weekend, easily, I bet), when I was young, and I liked it quite well. it was different from common cartoons: it had plot, drama, and love stories.

I prefer to watch the original Japanese versions with English subtitles. But with Yaiba, I have no choice but to watch the one dubbed in Spanish (all complete episodes can be found at youtube.com)

I've tried watching anime dubbed in English but it makes me want to throw something at the TV screen:crash:. Or sometimes, I fall asleep. I hate lousy dubbers!!!!

Er, that was meant for Lostprincess but I think I was busy writing my next post that I didn't notice it. But thanks for replying anyway. For mystery anime, I'd greatly recommend "Detective Conan" also known as "Case Closed" especially in UK, I think. Yeah, anime have substance, but few people are convinced.

Sorry for the confusion.

Coz it's just plain cartoon! I mean, one can also tell from the animation. Anime is more sophisticated.

But don't ask me if Avatar: The Last Airbender is an anime or not. Some would say that it is, but in my opinion, it's not but it comes close to being one.

Gundam? (I don't know which Gundam series, though.) I give up. Please do tell. :D

Lol!

right: it's Macross. (In the US, they called it Robotech, but in Brasil, we had it translated from Japanese, so it was Macross, and the names were the Japanese ones ...)

It's an old one. I never watched sequences. I can't say I'm very interested for sequences of Macross ... I like the first and original one. It's a closed story, everything ends, after all. I like it dearly. If I ever find it to sell, sometime, and I have the money at the time, I'll take it! :D :)

crystalmoonshin
05-23-2009, 01:45 PM
I've heard a great deal about Macross. But I'm not really interested in old anime series, except for the Gundams. Funny thing, when I was 4, I was a big fan of Voltes V but 10 years or so later when it was aired on a local TV channel, I couldn't believe it was the anime I used to really really like. (But it must be because I got used to newly released ones with awesome graphics.)

since no one has explain to us what anime is, i took the liberty to do it myself...hopefuly it'll help those of us who doesnt know really what anime is ::D:

Anime (アニメ?, an abbreviated Japanese pronunciation of "animation", pronouned
[anime] ( listen) in Japanese, but typically /ˈænɪmeɪ/ or /ˈænɪmə/ in English) is animation in Japan. The rest of the world regards anime as "Japanese animation".[1] Anime originated about 1917.[2][dead link]

Anime, like manga (Japanese comics), is extremely popular in Japan and well known throughout the world. Distributors can release anime via television broadcasts, directly to video, or theatrically, as well as online.

Both hand-drawn and computer animated anime exist. It is used in television series, films, video, video games, commercials, and internet-based releases, and represents most, if not all, genres of fiction.

I used to have a babysitter whose son was really into anime and WOW... sailor moon is way more intense in the origional Japanese. There are lesbians, men who turn into women and incest. Now that I'm older I can apreciate the ancient greek ties to the show as well, like how Darian's real name was Endymion and he was courting Selena (Selene) and then they all went to sleep for a few thousand years.

Also, has anyone here ever seen a show called Ranma 1/2?

When I was young I'd watch Speed Racer on Nickelodeon :) And after school I'd watch whatever Cartoon Network or Fox Kids played, which was quite different nine or ten years ago.

Pornography in anime is actually divided into three namely, yuri (involving lesbians, meaning woman-woman sexual affairs), yaoi (man-man sexual affairs) and hentai (which in fact is a more general term for porn anime but now has come to mean man-woman sexual affairs, or something like that, straight, in short.) I'm not into porn so I'm not familiar with what they contain. But I've heard that some do contain incestuous relationships and many other weird stuffs.

Ranma 1/2 was like my fave comedy way back when i was young. Kinda lost interest in it though. (But I love P-chan, he's so cute!!!)

< more confuzzled than ever before

Anime is simply put japanese cartoons, often based on magna which is japanese comics ( a very big industry) anyway they are probably the last real hand draawn cartoons, which naturally makes them brilliant) although I have noticed CGI creeping into some of the newewr ones :bawling:

Also they do alot of adaptations of classics altyhough they really mess them up sometimes. Like they did a version of Jo's boys that was all about Nan who was only a minor figure ( I only realised this years later when I read the book and was like wait hummm )
and my avy is from La Naki Ko Remi which is based on Malot's Sans Famille although they changed the gender of the main charcter from male to female. Anyway my youngest sister went through as tage when she was teething when the arabic intro song to this was the ONLY thing that would get her to sleep.

Feeling nostalgic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPf5N7ukHdA&feature=related)

just been thinking there version of Little Princess was truer to the novel than the film version. I never did like the way that messed with the ending.
