MARY

Mary, you ran out on me
chased your dreams across the land and sea
and you’ve been gone these twenty years and more
but you’ve come back ( like they always do )
for your funeral. Here I sit beside you
tomorrow they’ll take you through the sepulcher door
so, I’ll just steal a kiss
‘cause, Mary, I won’t see you anymore!

Short and to the point. People do tend to go back to their "roots" to get buried, don't they? Maybe it is because there is nowhere left to go any more...

Thanks for posting, Sapphire

Moving indeed. The subject matter seems like it should be very sad, and it is, in a way. But the pace and tone indicate that it's okay and the narrarator has closure already. It summarizes the course of human nature very well. We exist, love, leave, run away, mourn, accept, die and say goodbye
