Thought you lit heads might be able to help out because there are fantastic names for books and maybe with some mixing and matching you could help me find a good name. This is for a friend of mine.
Suggested names:

Vanishing Act
Notes from Underground

and that's it.. ha

Here are some... just for fun (mix n match, just as it is, or some tweaks here and there)

Intruder(s) in the Dust
Dorian's Portrait
Hearts of Darkness
The Possessed
Pale Fire
Furious Sound
The Great Invisible(s)
Revolutionary Dalloway
The Mockingbirds...

I am sure none of those are really great or anything, but this was fun. Maybe I will think of more! :D

The Mockingbirds...

If the band only plays covers, then this is the PERFECT name. ;)

I'm good friends with a fantastic guitarist, and once he was looking for a band name. The two best rejected names that we came up with were:

Slash Annie
Widow's Dower

What's the band about? What's the music/sound they make? ...

As silly as it sounds, I would call these the best recommendations. A band named after a book worthy of reverence seems more like an insult to the author than an honorable spotlight, unless we speak of a band using lyrics to pay heed to the novel or author, much like Tchaikovsky did for Pushkin in honoring Eugene Onegin. If a band cannot think of an original name, I would give less respect to the originality of their music, fearing they may have dishonored other writers, musicians, or other types of artists.
Nihilo sanctum estne?

I think Notes from Underground is a reasonably good idea... not fantastic perhaps... but... did you mean it as in musical notes from underground? I like it for that reason at least. Especially since Underground means something in music as well, like how Red Hot Chili Peppers were underground for like 20 years before they went commercial.

Is there not already a band called notes from an underground?

What's the band about? What's the music/sound they make? ...
yes these are important questions... cant think of a relevant name if one doesnt know what type or genre they are.

Does it recite poem or lines from literature?

There is an indie band here called The William Blake's, I believe they have some sort of reference to him in their songs, wether it's text, or style of writing/singing that was the link I can't remember.
I think it's a dangerous thing to use someone else's work, or name like that though. It predefines you, and you have to live up to something that is probably nearly impossible. Like, I would never name my great litterary piece Jam Pearl. Seems disrespectful to the originality of the originator.
