I've just joined this community and hope to make some friends here. I'm a 34-year-old guy, born in the province of San Juan, Argentina.
I joined due to my interest in literature, and especially in poetry.

Other than that, I also do some paper craft and I like music of the meaningful type, History, Geography and especially I would like to know the location of the persons I'm interacting with, of course, if you don't have any problem in telling me where you are on the map. That will be highly appreciated.

I also write poems, but for now only in Spanish (my mother tongue). I love very much English poetry, but so far I have not tried to write it myself.

I want to meet people here. If someone wants to make contact, here I'll be frequently, okay? And I'll also be asking questions. I came to learn.

Truly we normally have little rain here (at least in the west where I live) but recently it's been raining more frequently and sometimes we are having more floods than in years of yore. I guess it must be this global warming problem. All weathers are changing so drastically. And dry summer here is lasting too long, except for a few intermitent fresh days. So what do you prefer, rainy or dry hot weather?

I have a question about the French line in your signature. Does it read something like Because this is you, this is me? Sorry if not, my French is not good enough.

Yep, yep, yep, you have the right impression!! I am definitely who you think I am and you are definitely who I think you are. So here we meet again on what seems to be a most lovely community. :D :thumbs_up

(Due to a lack of inspiration I picked the same name I have there and only changed the Avatar. Shame on me, I should be more creative... somehow only... actually I like the name... after all it's the Latin original form of my Spanish name, so it suits me more than fine)

I also have the impression we haven't talked enough and I think we should. After all we are close neighbors, though I must admit I speak no Portuguese, so we'd better keep the English feedback going. :D

Actually I tend to believe I am a poet, but for now only in my Spanish mother tongue. When I say would-be poet I'm talking about English, my second language, whose poetry I haven't tried myself yet, other than what I have read from the oven of some of the greatest English authors. Maybe one day I can sit besides them. Who knows? The future is not supposed to be written until we write it, don't you think?

I don't mind the rain - as long as I'm not in it! it makes melancholy. I hate dry hot weather. Can't do anything at all except complain how it is and sit iin front of a fan all day - and unfortunately I don't have that luxury, nor can I afford 'servants' to walk with me all day and fan me with palm leaves!

Well, as for writing in another language, it does require some ... ingenius, as we say in Portuguese, putting it in a Latin word. I think the key for it is reading. But so do I have some difficulties in producing text in English, and there are things I made in Portuguese that I tried to translate, but I realized that I'm far from being able to do it. If ever. Not translation. However, creation is already reasonably possible to me, and it's due to reading, I trust.

As for the third forum ... it's my little secret. But I can say it's a forum on playmobil! :) :) :) :) :)

In time, I believe it'll come out, in LitNet. Then, I'll change from librarius qui to my own name :rolleyes:

Interesting to see people from another forum migrating to LitNet ... It's more difficult to imagine people from LitNet migrating to the www.latinforum.org but, well ... it's a beginning, haha! :thumbs_up

Yep, English is weird for native speakers of other tongues. That's why it is such a great and beautiful language. It doesn't fall short of mysteries at all. :)

Anglophones have the same habit that we, the Hispanophones, have. We both tend to shorten names, mainly due to fondness purposes (in Spanish my short name would be Maxi; in fact almost everyone calls me that way here). This takes me to believe that people are not so different from each other, even belonging to different cultures and traditions. How about Lusophones? You give a pet form to almost every name too? :nod:

If I'm not wrong, I think that Borges wrote some material in English as well. I'm sure he published some of his opinions on the Shakespeare's sonnets, but I can't quite recall if he wrote something of his own in English.

Well if you are talking about a Portuguese poem, it will always be difficult to take it to English terms, and the same would happen the other way around. You see, there are many Spanish versions of the Shakespeare sonnets, and it's been said that it's quite unlikely that one day a final accurate version will see the light. This is totally normal 'cos different languages have different poetry styles, meters, and so on, so we can't express what we want in one language the same way that we did in another. :thumbs_up

I agree that reading is a key to creation as well as Ingenius (that must be Ingenio in Spanish; what's the Lusitanian form?)

The way I see it, Latin Forum is more open when you have a good command of Latin, which is not my case except for a few phrases I have been taught there. In American Portuguese, there's a tendency of Anglicising the names. And use of English names is getting bigger and bigger ... (I was thinking about it yesterday, by coincidence ...) So, there's Jefferson, here, Anderson, Diane (which is written Daiane, many times, so as to keep the way it's said in English), there are a lot of Douglas ... Among many others. But the majority is, of course, Portuguese common names. João, Paulo, Pedro, Bruno, Guilherme, Gustavo, Flávio, Fernando, Daniel, Gabriel, Rafael, Sérgio, ... And some foreign, turned into Portuguese ... Iuri, for instance, down from Russian, was common, since my generation.

Longer names tent to be shortened, such as Fernando: Nando; Guilherme: Gui, Guiga; Gustavo: Gu, Guga, Guto ... Patrícia, we call Pati; Camila, Ludmila (wchich is Russian too), Mila; Gabriela, Gabi (we say Gabí); Daniela/Danielle (f), Dani (we say Dâni) ... & cetera :D

Comparison, I think. I look at English production, Spanish production, Italian production (talking only, but particularly, about the XXth century), and I see something significant. I look at Portuguese production and I kind of see Portugal by far, with 1 (one) author, and that's all.

I'm publishing something in my blog that is in Portuguese, and that I consider 1. important, and 2. well conceived, poetically speaking. (It's the one I tried to translate into English, and could not, because English isn't my mother language ...)

Apart from that, which I could not wait to publish, I write somethings in English, but this is why I'm learning Latin for: I don't intend to write in Portuguese, but my greatest dream is to produce all my main literature in Latin. Crazy, aye? :D

A ship, jekan. Actually the Blackbird is a short-lived, prototype Colonial stealth fighter designed by Galen Tyrol and built by many deckhands and officers on Galactica (I'm talking about Battlestar Galactica, the reimagined series) :)

I should have made it with stiffer paper, something like photographic paper or similar. I used regular printer paper in order to practice, because it's been quite many years since I don't do papercraft and I wanted to make sure that my hands have not become clumsy, and about the model's accuracy (there are details the designer skipped, but they are minimal). All in all, it's a good simple model to build in a few days. I will try it again soon, but this time I'll give it a go with better paper. :thumbs_up :D
